The difference is the type of meat used to make it.

a hot dog can be either chicken, beef or pork (or all 3)

a frank is beef only

a weiner is pork only

hot dog is weiner on bun with fixings, weiner is the meat frankfurter is a weiner. The difference is where you're from.

I think it's a regional thing. There might be a difference in the spices used, but generally I think a rose is a rose is a rose.

I think they are all the same, it just depends on what region of the country you are from as to what they are called. Just like hoagies, subs, etc.
