I'm a nutritionist
poor eating habits of preschool children are, I am sorry to tell you, 100% caused by parents and caregivers.
The most common problems I deal with are force feeding (parent thinks child isn't eating enough), and improper food choices (parent offers limited food choices or food with poor nutritional quality).
The best way to handle this is to remember that children this age eat when they are hungry and stop when they are full, they will not naturally over or under eat.
Also offer your child a variety of nutritious food, that means fruit vegetables and whole grains, and stop feeding them things that come ready to eat or packaged. If the child refuses to eat a meal it is OK to make them skip it, it is much worse to offer different food or a snack in effort to get them to eat something.

good luck and if you have questions feel free to email me

Just make sure you have plenty of fruits and vegetables instead of unhealthy snacks. Make them eat their meals without getting up from the table, if they say they are full from eating then don't make them just say that they will not get any snacks until later until they eat a good amount of their meal, usually you can tell by saying this if the child is really full or just not wanting to eat. And proper excercising and not a lot of television will help the child in many ways.

My childrens pediatrician says that little children know what their bodies need, so as long as you are not feeding them junk food, they will eat what they need. I am not so sure that I agree, because my daughter had a GI problem and doesn't eat because she thinkg she is always full.... so the answer to your question is ...every parent should know what is best because they know their child better than anyone.(even the pediatrician)

What is your child eating? We can't answer this question properly if we don't know what is being eaten.

Does your child get calcium rich foods every day?
Does your child get foods rich in iron, vitamin C, Vitamin A every day?
How about protein? Does your child get this?

Do you limit your child's sugar intake and intake of fried fast foods?
