Hello, Christian Minister here,
"Christians" have to walk a fine line between doing whats right and fighting whats evil.
If a christian believes something is wrong its their duty to fight the injustice, but if they do it in the wrong way, its actually doing evil.
For example, lets just assume that abortion is wrong, just for the sake of arguement. Now, if I were to speak out against abortion and say how Its really horrible that someone would end the life of a baby, that would be fine and moral. If I struck out and killed an abortion doctor to enforce my views, I would be doing evl.
Christianity has a clause about obeying your government, so if the government says to shut down abortion clinics, it would prevent the offending act, as well as keep those forcing their views upon you feeling morally upright.
God gave every person free will, there are increasing number of christians who believe that free will should not be impeded, that those who wish to sin should be allowed to. I'm all for it, unless it harms another person. Being sent to heaven is typically a better situation than the baby would have had.
Its tangled, but it comes down to, christians need to fight what is evil, but evil has crept in to the methods they use. Should abortion, once more for example, actually be outlawed, much more harm and immorality would come of it, due to coat-hanger abortions, and orphaned children. It's a losing battle, and if christians continue fighting for whats right, by outlawing whats wrong, you will have a large group, like yourself, arguing that it is not immoral, simply to have it legalized and restore free will.
(For the benefit of those posting before me, let me lay something out, Marriage was a concept LONG before the days of the bible, early mesopotamians(you know, the believed earliest civilized society?) were believed to have a form of wedding vows, and pagan groups have had forms of hand bindings and oaths of love for a long long time. There are even strange types of marriage in the christian bible, Solomon had 700 wives and 300 concubines, and he was honored throughout most of his part of the bible as a great leader and the example of Wisdom)

So far, there has not been a proposal to make it a crime for gays to marry. It has never been an acceptable practice.
The big fuss isn't because christians want to make it illegal, but because gays are pushing to change the laws that already exist. At the time this country was formed, it was understood that marriage was between a man and woman; homosexuality was still deep in the dark closet. The proposed ammendment was only toclarify the original intent, but not to make gay practices a crime.
I keep my sexuality in the closet, so why can't the homosexuals do the same. Do what you want to do behind closed doors, and don't tell the world that you are taking it in the poop shoot.

Marriage can be both a civil and a religious contract, usually between a man and a woman in order to protect the family and the rearing of children. In Western society legal provisions are made for the passing of property and children's and spousal rights on the death or incapacity of an individual. Also other economic benefits are allowed, i.e. health insurance, rental rights, etc.
What a couple does in the privacy of their home is their business, as you know by the repeal of sodomy laws.
However, you realize that the gay lifestyle has some negative impacts on society in some, if not many cases. Young boys are kidnapped and used in prostitution rings, AIDS spreads and has a high cost in health care and lives lost, sexuality is self-centered rather than family-centered.
The main question regarding your gender identity is whether you can feel close to the Source of your being - God, Allah, or whatever name you choose . Christians tend to believe that the Principles or laws set down in the Bible are for guiding man to his true purpose in this life experience and provide a lasting happiness and sense of peace.

So you are upset a little It appears. Well I am just as and probably more with the gay community. Gay parades, Gay rights day, We are very much tired of you trying to make us believe as you do. You do the same as you advise us to do. Get on with your life and stop flaunting your way of life in our faces. Marriage has been a religious term for a heck of along time so just pick another word for it to fit your life style and stop trying to be what you are not. I don't care what you are and who you marry. I am very tired of seeing you and others in the news all the time complaining. You are the ones that cause most of the problems.

Laws are based upon our values and beliefs. Since the United States is a predominantly Christian country (85%), our laws are based on Judeo-Christian values, which are derived from the Bible.
The very institution of marriage has its origins in the Bible, so for someone to come along and try to give a different definition of marriage (besides that of a man and woman), is not just wrong, it cannot be correctly called "marriage."

It seems to me that you are don't like how someone else is leading their life. You may not agree with their morals and views, but they are allowed, just as you are to state what they believe, and it is human nature to want the world you live in to be in line with ones views.
Although you don't agree, most Christians disagree with homosexuality because their God has declared that it is immoral and the continuation of it with out repentance will send the person to Hell. I believe that most people are just trying their best to make sure that others are aware of the consequences of their actions in the after life. It is out of love that disagree and try to make changes in their world.
You need to learn to love everyone too. Whether they are christian or not, whether they believe as you do or not.

Just because people call themselves Christians doesn't mean they're not control freaks. I am a Christian, and I am not a control freak. I believe in "Live and let live". That's why I don't go to church very often. I don't like the kind of people I meet there! But I'll probably catch heat for saying this!

Much of their self-righteous passion to interfere in the lives of others is politically inspired, not spiritually. And politics is about power, about dictating laws and codes of conduct. Remember, Christianity is a business (tax free) and its leaders often make tons of money. Evangelism, for example, is big business, offering good careers and good money. Religious positions appeal to persons who want prestige and lots of personal power, who derive satisfaction from telling others what to do. Moral dictators and meglomaniacs - you get the idea. I don't believe the average Christian cares that much about personal freedoms like gay marriage or even abortion, but a lot of Christians are like sheep - and their despotic ministers and priests are happy to do their thinking for them.

Homosexuality is an abomination to God so why would we not be against same sex marriages being legal. Also the institution of marriage came from God and he says one man and one woman ONLY; and one of each at a time.
