The answer is yes. Anything the president does from now until the end of his term will be pounced upon by his detractors in an effort to demoralize and discredit. Anything that happens in Iraq that either is negative or can be spun in a negative view, likewise.
As long we have to deal with the Ted Kennedys and Hillary Clintons of this world, people will continue to misunderstand the events going on around them, because they will be listening to campaigns of misinformation.
One example is the person who answered saying that the American people were told that the war would be over in less than a year. The truth is that major combat operations were over in far less than a year, but then terrorist, jihadist, anti-American insurgents began their campaign of murder and quasi-organized crime (such as kidnappings for ransom). See, people listen to the liberal, far-left media and other whining sources, and come to believe that Bush lied - instead of what really happened, which is that he was talking about major operations (force-on-force maneuvering at the division-element level), which really was over in less than a year.
The same people who spread the misinformation in the first place will be the first ones to blow the whistle when their nonsense doesn't pan out.

American citizens were told that this war would be taken care of in less than a year and the total cost of it would be no more than 1 billion dollars, also that we would have no more than 500 U.S. casualties, this was said by Richard Perle and Paul Wolfowitz. Now to do this war right would require us to keep a troop prescence there at least for a few more years. Also the Iraqi security forces are nowhere near able to stand on their own feet, and this is by our military's own admission. Our troops should and will not come home any time soon if we are to secure Iraq properly. There are those that want the troops home now, that won't happen. There are those that believe that this war has done nothing for the security of America, and that we were told some storybook version of how the war was supposed to go. Well these people are already right so it's too late for you to gripe about it, you just have to admit it and try to understand what really happened.

The troops may never totally be gone from Iraq. We still have troops in Korea, and in Kuwait. We also have had troops in Germany since WWII. Even now we are decreasing our force in Iraq, the decrease will continue until Iraq can protect and defend it's self. Our presents there, will then be more for show then anything else. Even now we are placing more duties on the civilians. The civilians and local military are slowly taking over the security jobs that the US was doing.

There will be troops in Iraq for a LONG time.
That is the only way to prevent the country from being taken over by Al Qaeda or Iran, and to prevent a fullscale (Sunni vs. Shiite) civil war from breaking out.
The conflict must be managed better, but there will be a need to maintain a presence in Iraq (easily 50,000 soldiers or more), for many years to come.

Every time a soldier dies, the detractors claim a small victory. I can't imagine how upset they'd be if no more soldiers were killed...
When we can pull out, leaving behind a safe and secure Iraq, everyone will try to take credit for the victory. That's the nature of the political beast.

Probably. They'll spin it to make themselves look good. God forbid that anyone could be made to look wrong in these modern days of moral relativism and waffling.
