I'm switching from a small private school that I've been to since kindergarten to a public school with a class of 700 something... any advice?

Be yourself.
Don't try too hard.
Seek out contact with your classmates, but let things happen naturally after that.
Discuss your interests and find people with common interests.
Listen more than you speak.
Be prepared for resentment when you destroy the grading curve!

Be yourself. Don't try to be someone that you are not just to fit in. Will you be starting now for the last week or two of school or will you be starting in the fall? If you'll be starting in the fall, perhaps you can get to know a few kids from the new school over the summer. Try not to get stereotyped from the beginning. Wear conservative clothes/hairstyle. Try to be outgoing without overdoing it. Most of all, feel good about yourself. People will be able to see that you are comfortable with yourself and that will help to make a good first impression. Show your positive self-esteem. If you appear to be really nervous or unsure of yourself, people may think that you are a pushover.

If you want to make friends quick, be friendly. Say hi first to others. If you have a question about the work you are to do, and the teacher is busy, ask a student next to you. Join a table at lunch that has several of your fellow students at it. Dont sit by yourself. Dont overdress trying to impress, it does not always work the way you want. And last of all, be confident in yourself. If you think you are worth knowing, others will think so too. Have fun!

Dont care what other people think. Be kind and caring.

I went to 8 different schools in 10 years. NO matter where you go, kids will be asses, you will feel like an idiot who doesnt belong, and eventually things will even out. In the mean time, just decide that youre going to be everyones friend, not because you need to be, but because they need you to be. You'll have an easier time getting along.

Smile. Be yourself. Don't be afraid to talk to people and introduce yourself. It's not that hard to make friends. Just be confident and optimistic.
The same thing happened to me... I introduced myself to some people. I thought people would be mean to me and ignore me. But it didn't happen. They were actually really friendly. So if you come there with a positive attitude, they will befriend you.

Good luck!

Be yourself. You will also need to be very observant of your surroundings. Learn people. Just because you think you would like to be friends with them doesn't mean you'll feel that way when you really get to know them.

be confident but not pushy, open but not naive. Kids can be cruel but most will respect you if you show that you are not intimidated the first few days are the hardest but it will get better.
