Princess - when you post these kinds of questions, unfortunately you will get inane and irrelevant answers from religious fanatics who do not believe human problems have organic origins. I am just surprised that this time it was a Muslim instead of someone in one of the many "Christian" sects that also denigrate psychology and psychiatry. Oh, well, religious fanatics are essentially the same, no matter which "holy book" they read.
Now to the meat of your query.
You got many sound replies above. Anti-depressants have variable results according to the individual. They also have variable results according to the dosage - for example, a big dose of Zoloft can produce different consequences than a lesser dose.
I am surprised that you apparently have not been under a regimen of monitoring by the doctor(s) who diagnosed you. It is typical when a patient begins this treatment to be checked frequently to monitor the effectiveness of the medications, and if they do not work right, to be changed.
As a side statement, be aware that you can't really drink if you have depression, and especially when on medications. Alcohol IS a depressant.
Also, anyone diagnosed with acute depression (as I presume is what they said of you) should be placed under the direct care of a psychiatrist. Psychiatrists are medical doctors who are trained in these matters and the use of medications as an element of treatment. They do not always require a patient to undergo intensive analysis and theray. Today's psychiatrists are inheritors of Freud's work, but they are much, much different from the old-fashioned concept of egg-head analysts.
Any mental health problem produces behavioral consequences, however, And these can persist beyond the effect of chemical sources of the problem. Depression is not entirely a chemistry problem, usually, and to think that medications alone will resolve depression is to miss an opportunity to go after the things that cause or contribute to the problem.
We are ALL mixed-up folk. There's nothing whatsoever wrong with getting un-mixed-up if we get the chance. Go back to your doctor, milady, and get a referral to a psychiatrist you can trust and work with, and keep your appointments. By the way, my experience suggests that a psychiatrist who embraces "gestalt therapy" methods is the most effective.

yes anti-depressants can cause this behavior. The best known is the effects of Zoloft on teens. It also sometimes increases depression and suicidal tendencies. I would not advise to just cease taking a medicince a Dr. prescribed for you. If you get that concerned, you should make an appointment ASAP and discuss the effects with your Dr. and they will advise you how to stop taking it and may prescribe you something else. The reasons some of these meds do this to some people and not others is all in an individuals chemical make-up, different people have different reactions.

Yes. Depression in many cases can be exasserbated by the medications. Many doctors will tell you that they are only trying to fidn the right "mix" to help you. They are never 100% certain that any one drug is right for any one person until they try it. They can be sure it's on the right track, but then as the body chemestry changes, the drug's ability to help also changes. This is why you need to stay with a doctor until you feel better.
I hope that you're doing better, and if not, I hope you can find a good doctor to talk to.

A lot of how an anti-depressant drug affects you has to do with your age. Best thing to do is consult with your doctor. He (she) may want to try something new. You should never just stop taking an anti-depressant. Most you need to taper off of or you can have some serious side effects. (Hope that's the correct usage of affect and effect. LOL)

Yes anti depressants can and do often cause this side effect. They react different to different people. Those types of anti depressants didn't work for me either so I was switched to klonopin and later xanax. I have been on xanax for 2 years now and they work very very well for me. I don't even have to take them every day, only when I need them.

Have you ever wondered about the reason of our existence? Have you ever wondered why we die, and where we go after death? What will happen to us in the end? Have you ever asked yourself why God made the earth and all that is in it under man’s dominion? Why were the night and the day, and the sun and the moon created? What are we supposed to do during our lifetime? Were we created just to eat, drink, and enjoy ourselves before we die? As one poet put it:
“I do not know whence I have come.
I saw my feet walking on the road.
As they please I go and stop.
What am I doing here?
How did the road find me?
I do not know! I do not know! I do not know! ”
God has emphasized in many verses of the Qur’an that He did not create us without purpose. He said: “What! Do you think that I created you simply in jest? And that you would not be returned to Me?” (23:115) He also said: “What! Does man think that he will be left to roam at his will?” (75:36) In addition, He said: “Do people think that they will be left to say: “We believe,” and they will not be held accountable?” (29:2)
Indeed, God Has created human beings for a purpose and with a purpose: TO WORSHIP HIM ALONE (Monotheism). He said: “I have not created the Jinn and humankind except only to worship Me. I don't require provision or feeding from them. Surely Allah is the All-provider, the Possessor of all strength, the Firm.” (51:56-58) In fact, all prophets told their people to worship God alone (Monotheism) and shun worshipping His creation (Paganism). God said: “I assuredly sent among every people a messenger with the command: Worship Allah and avoid worshipping false gods.” (16:36)
Prophet Abraham, for example, believed in One God, who had no partner. Anyone who holds a different understanding of God than this has contradicted the religion of Abraham and follows falsehood. God says in the Qur’an: “Those who reject the religion of Abraham make fools of themselves.” (2:130)
Prophet Jesus was reported in the Gospels to have said: “It is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God and serve Him only’.” (Luke 4:8)
Prophet Jacob also said (in the Qur'an) to his people: “Indeed, those which you worship besides Allah are only names that you and your forefathers have established, for which Allah has sent down no authority. The command belongs only to Allah. He has commanded that you worship none but Him. That is the right religion, but most people do not understand.” (12:40)

Real happiness and peace can be ONLY found in submitting to the commands of the Creator and the Sustainer of this world. God has said in the Qur’an: (Truly, in remembering God do hearts find rest.)
(Qur’an, 13:28)
On the other hand, the one who turns away from the Qur’an will have a life of hardship in this world. God has said:
(But whoever turns away from the Qur’an, he will have a hard life, and We will raise him up blind on the Day of Judgment.) (Qur’an, 20:124)
This may explain why some people commit suicide while they enjoy the material comfort money can buy. For example, look at Cat Stevens (now Yusuf Islam), formerly a famous pop singer who used to earn sometimes more than $150,000 a night. After he converted to Islam, he found true happiness and peace, which he had not found in material success.

unfortunaly medicine we think are supposed to help us does the exact oppisite. This has happened to me in the past and i would strongly suggest to talk with the physican who prescribed it and try something eles. It might take a few tries with a few different med. Dont give up there is a medicine out there. You should also seek a therapist they are awesome to talk to. Someone not knowing you at all and you can tell them all your problems life concerns etc......IT REALLY HELPS. Take care and if you need to talk please email me bcjne74@yahoo.com
