My daughter and her boyfriend live in orange county. VERY expensive.
She is a manager for a restaurant and he is a machinist for a major aeronautics company. They live in a small studio apt. near a college and have no money left after bills and putting gas in the car.

It depends where in the OC you want to live. After I got married, I moved from LA county to the OC and lived in Anaheim. I got a 2 bedroom apartment for $950 a month. It wasn't the best neighborhood but it wasn't the ghetto either.

Now I bought a home in Fullerton and pay $1100 a month.

You can find a decent place in the OC that's not too pricey, but of course you're not going to be living in Newport Beach or Cota De Caza!

Try living in Garden Grove, Fountain Valley, Westminster and even some parts of Santa Ana is nice.

If you wish to get a job, you'll probably find more luck closer to the Spectrum, as there's more industry there. The first job I was able to find was through a headhunter like Apple One, Manhunter, etc.
Monster.com is a great source too.

Good luck.. you can find a decent place and then move up after you saved up.

PS Stay away from the Disneyland area. Parts of that area is not nice!

Orange County is really expensive but jobs are plentiful. There are plenty of major corporations here esp. in Irvine. What type of job are they looking for?

I live in South Coast Metro and pay $1530 for a 2-bedroom apartment. We've been here for 6 years so our rent is cheaper though.

The person above me who said that they bought a house and is paying $1100 is being disingenious. If that is what they are paying then they bought the house years ago. Right now 900 sq. ft. condos are going for over $500K. Houses are generally in the $700K + ranges. Of course, if you choose to live in a worse area it can be a little cheaper but it won't be as safe. I live in a middle of the road area and the houses around me are over $700K. The nicer areas are even more expensive.

I grew up in Newport. Yep. It's expensive alright. And no quality of life either! I also lived in LA because I went to college in LA and met and married in LA. We got outta that craphole too. Now we live in the Palm Springs area and it's nice, but getting to be more like LA or OC. In 6 months we are moving to Texas. I can't wait to get the flock outta CA!!!
