I am going to be vacationing in downtown Halifax, and taking a day trip to Peggy's Cove and Lunenburg, and I want to be able to find some seashells along a shoreline to take home with me. Can I do this in any of those 3 places? Halifax has Point Pleasant Park, but is there a beachy area there where I might find seashells? I will be on foot, and not renting a vehicle, so driving out of the city is out of the question.

Hmm... I'm trying to recall the beaches and what shells I ever found there. Quite frankly, we spent many summers in Nova Scotia, but I don't recall ever really finding any shells except for a very few tiny ones. Most of the beaches are rock. In fact, if you are taking a day trip to Peggy's Cove, the whole town is situated on some huge rocks, mostly without beaches. In all of my trips there, I've picked up some beautiful rocks (in fact, some beach areas in Nova Scotia are famous for their gemstones), but not shells. I have pasted a link below that talks about the beaches in Nova Scotia and it does mention collecting shells, perhaps that might be a place for you to begin your search for additional information.

You will find some small shells on the beaches in and around Halifax, mussel, periwinkle, scallop and other small shells but do not expect to find large shells as the high tides wash out most things. Search the tide line and look under driftwood and seaweed. Have fun!
