When you see the leaves at the top, pull the middle one out. If comes out easily then it is ripe.
Also the smell of it can help too!

A ripe pineapple should have a pinapple smell and if you can pull the leaves out easily it is ripe and ready for eating.

If the outside is: -dark, its old
-light, its not ripe yet
So looking from that, get a pinapple thats not too dark but not too light.

I always go by the smell and color. It should have more of a yellow color to it rather than green. Smell it from the bottom and you should be able to squeeze it slightly, but if it pushes in too much it could be bruised.
They are yummy. They taste much better fresh than canned!

smell the end where it was picked off, (ie) the bottom, it should smell like strong fresh pineapple,
