Money is not that big of a factor. Just want to know which way to go and the difference between the types.

I have a 52" JVC rear projection. In one year I have had to replace the lamp twice. The lamp costs $200 a pop. I feel totally duped on this tv. Please do not waste your money and buy it.

I second the mitsubishi. For truly big screens no company can compete with them very high quality but very expensive.

I would completly forget about plasma tv's I have researched and compared and watched almost every make and model of new hdtv's and plasma just does not cut it. they look great at first but quickly diminish over time.

I recommend LCD's or CRT's.

Lcd's you will have to choose between rear projection, dlp, flat panel, 3lcd.

Rear projection's are very nice and affordable. they can fade a bit if there's some form of light source projecting on to the screen - they are the cheapest of all LCD's to fix. you usually just have to buy a new lamp which is about 150 - 200 bucks.

DLP about the same as rear projection except the light is reflected of a microchip.

Flat Panel LCD - these are great no matter what. some older models have burn in or screen door problems but most newer one's are completly perfect and last a very long time. expensive to fix though if there is a problem. 800-1000 bucks

3lcd this is a bit of newer technology that i havn't had much time to look at. from what i've seen it looks a bit darker than other lcd pictures.

CRT's are like computer monitors and current regular tv's. but the HDTV crt's have probably the best overall picture quality of LCDs or Plasma's. only 2 problems. Can get a glare from the screen and they are extremly heavy a the mitusbishi 65 inch crt is the most amazing tv i have seen. but it weighs around 650 lbs.

I have to go can't finish this answer. if your still not sure. go to www.cnet.com they have thousands of tv reviews on their site.

Plasma Tv's are good but if you let it drop or if not properly packaged and shipped it can mess up easily. LCD are also good but you cant touch the screen because it'll leave a permanent mark on the screen as if the picture was washed out. projection is probably you're best bet if you don't know anyone who constantly stands up and walks infront of the television all the time.

It must be lucky for money not to be a factor. Plasma is defently your best bet because of clarity dpi and overall color, second projection because of cost and ease of finding a big size. I don't think LCDs come that big and usally they have promplems with images being burned into the screen, over extended time, ex. the cnn logo on the bottom right corner. The key to HD tv is making sure you get HD channels and equipment, otherwise its pointless.

Plasma if viewing from a side angle in important. Panasonic has consistently been top rated by Consumer Reports. I have been very pleased with my Panasonic 50" plasma. Projection would be a last choice.

if you want the best picture, go with a mitubishi diamond 1080 lp. the thing has twice the clarity of a normal high def tv. yeah you have to see one to believe it. i think its in the $5000 price range.

good luck!
