You are referring to a blood glucose meter, which is a device that measure the amount of sugar in the blood. Diabetes is an illness that is caused by malfunction of the pancreas. The pancreas distributes natural insulin to the blood to maintain healthy blood sugar levels.The symptom that is most easily detected is high or low (hyperglcymic or hypoglycymic) blood sugar. High blood sugar will cause you to be extremely thirsty, feel tired, and to urinate frequently. Low blood sugar will generally make you feel woozy, clammy, and unstable.
Diabetes is a horrible illness because it damages your body without you necessarily feeling it. Diabetes can lead to liver problems, blindness, amputation of limbs due to poor circulation, heart problems, and a whole slew of other medical problems. Get checked ASAP!!!

The device is called a Blood Glucose Meter. There are many, many available and you can purchase one at your local pharmacy. I think that the best one is One Touch Ultra. It's like a PDA - it keeps a log of your blood glucose entries, your exercise, your meals, your medications, it then gives you averages and charts based on any and all of the above criteria.

Diabetes is usually treated through a combination of diet (low sugar), exercise and medications/insulin. Milder cases can be controlled with just diet an/or exercise while more severe cases require meds or insulin as well.

Blood Glucose Meter. One Touch Ultra is good. There are a couple more good ones. Check them out at a pharmacy and ask the pharmacist for a good one.
