Should the US compensate Vietnam for War Crimes.?

Question

The U S withdrew from Vietnam because the public opinion were aware The US were commiting crimes against civilians and refugees.
It also contaminated half the agricultural land in Vietnam with agent ornage just before withdrawing therefore denying Vietnam any chances of success. It is estimated that one million Vietnamese died
because of this contamination on a span of 25 years and countless people were born with malformations.

Should the US compensate Vietnam for War Crimes ? Did it ever compensate?

Tell me what are the chances the US really compensate for the destruction of Iran and Iraq? Will it compensate Iraqi and Afghans for the wronful death The US policies caused ?

I don't know if the US has compensated Vietnam for war crimes but I feel they should - but not as long as the government is still Communist. And we need to stop committing these war crimes? We wouldn't have to compensate for them if we didn't commit them. Better yet, we need to stay out of these countries. I still can't figure out why we were in Vietnam in the first place - they didn't ask for our help! Nor did the Iraqis.

Everyone here is absolutely idiotic. Of course, US prisoners were tortured, maimed, but all have been returned back to the United States. In addition, there are no US prisoners left in Vietnam or Laos, "unaccounted for" does not mean that they re still alive. As for the dead bodies, it s stupid to assume that the Vietnamese have all the missing bodies of all US servicemen. The Jungles there are large and vast, soldiers can get lost and just die somewhere smack in the middle of nowhere. And anyway, the US has done numerous more war crimes against the Vietnamese people. Some of you talk of the US military needing to commit war crimes to ensure the safety of Americans. Agent Orange destroyed Vietnamese croplands and even today people are born with deformities frrm Agent Orange, does that do anything to protect Americans? Many of the US s war crimes were commited against CIVILLIANS, have you lot heard of the My Lai Massacre? All the terrible things that were done to US prisoners of war were done to innocent, unarmed civillians. That aside, captured Vietnamese prisoners or even just captured civillians suspected of being Viet Cong were tortured maimed, and raped if they were women. And other than that, the US shouldn t have been in Vietnam. Your incessant fear or Communism led you to support a regime that offered less religious freedom, and was barely democratic. The North Vietnamese weren t Communist zealots, they were fighting for Vietnam, against foreign invaders. I m sure you Americans could relate that to the Brits and your revolution. So my answer is that both sides should compensate each other, the Vietnamese should compensate US veterans who were tortured and attempt to return all the bodies they currently still have, and the Americans should compensate to Vietnam for destroying their arable land and the various atrocities they committed against civilians.

Hmm.. let me think... NO WAY! You had alot of interesting things to say in your question. But you didn't include how many of our men living or dead still remain in Vietnam. What about them? What about what they did to our men when they captured them? Ever listen to those tales? Once you hear it, you won't forget it. We never treated the captures soldiers that way. Not even close. That is a very sick proposition- giving them compensation! My dad and his Vet friends- well, it would break their hearts all over again.

What is wrong with people? War is ugly and people die. I back our military men 100% on whatever they have to do to survive in war. How can anyone put down our men and women that puts their lives in danger everyday, Like I told my son and his friends that was in Iraq; Shoot first then kick them a few times Then ask questions!
Don't people understand if there was a war on America soil there would be innocent people die. What does our government want? Do they want our military men and women to put down their weapons and walk up to the enemy and ask nicely please put your weapon down so I can arrest you.That's a joke!! These men and women are doing what they have to do to stay alive and I respect them for it. I feel we shouldn't compensate any country till we take better care of our veterans. Now that's who deserves the money.

Sure, and then we can give money to the Nazi's because we were there, too.The VC were just little angels. Then maybe we can pay off Japan for bombing pearl harbor. Maybe a check should be written to England for helping create America in the first place.... I don't see the Arabs padding my wallet for the WTC crime.

I didn't read your whole question, but my immediate response is NO!! I don't think we should really make compensation to any country with which we are at war...seems kind of counterproductive....hey let's blow everything up and let's build it back up again....forget that. now if we are TAKING OVER a place as in conquering it, then sure, build it up...but if you're just trying to win a war by destroying the other side, then now way!!!

I bet either you have a Liberal professor or you are a Liberal professor. No we don't owe nothing to any of them. Why do people keep thinking the US owes them. If you pist off the US Government enough that we go to war(police action) against you there should be nothing short of NUKES on your butt.
