Linux is my choice for an on-line server.

Windows is my choice as a workstation and doing and real work.

MAC is my choice for doing graphics in the publications business.

PS2 is my choice for PLAYING GAMES.

Nokia is my choice for talking on a mobile phone

Refrigerator is my choice for keeping things cold in the kitchen.

You see, every chore requires a specific device. A computer is NOT a do-it-all sort of thing. So don't try to make it do everything.

"There are very few programs available for Linux..." - this is a lie. There are thens thousands of programs available for Linux. Almost everything you can do with Windows is also possible on Linux (except for high-end gaming). Windows may be called more "user-friendly" than *nix. It depends. What do you mean exactly by user friendly? Windows limits the things you can do with your computer, thus making it easier to use. However, by doing so, Microsoft keeps it's users stupid. You don't need to be smart. The computer does the work for you. *nixes (FreeBSD, Linux, etc) take the opposite approach. They provide you with the tools you need to do the things you want, but you have to make it work. As a Unix user, you will actually have to learn things. If are not interested in this, you better keep using Windows.

The right answer for you depends on your ability level with computers and software.

Linux is made for those who like to constatnly tweak and work with thier systems. There are very few programs available for Linux, though many more are showing up every day.

Windows is widely used, and there are more programs but you still need to be aware of your system and keep track of security patches, problems and keep a good utility pack of Virus/Spam/Adware programs handy.

Though Linux is free, you may end up paying for other add-ons and programs. Windows is NOT free, and any programs you get will also cost you.
