Even animals have their own personalities. There are learned behaviors that would not be instilled in the cloned animal. Behavioral conditioning would not have occured. Your former pet deserves your respect, and to be remembered as "one of a kind".
By the way, the cloned cat would be a "real" cat too, just not the "same" cat.

The only thing you're going to have is an animal that looks exactly the same as you last pet. Events in an animals life is what shapes it's personality and disposition so they animal won't necessarily act the same as your old pet. I think it would just serve as a sad reminder of what you used to have.
There's also the myriad of medical issues that clones have had so far, they have weakened immune systems and are much more likely to develop cancer... but I suppose if you can pay $50,000 to have them cloned, vet bills are probably pocket change.

Oh that's so wrong! It's not just the genetics that makes a pet, it's the personality. And personality is shaped by your parents (mama cat in this case), your siblings, your home environment and your upbringing. Also, I remember they cloned that sheep and it died of causes that were related to old age, but it was only like 2 or 3 years old! It's Frankenstein science. I would never, never, ever do this. I miss my childhood pet something fierce (I still carry a photo of her with me to this very day), but she is at peace and she will forever be in my heart. I will see her on the otherside and I can wait!

NO WAY! You would only get the same body back and not the personality. Could anyone cope with a cat that looks the same but acts totally different? To me that would destory the memory of the beloved kitty that was no longer with me.

in a way i believe that cloning your deceased pet is wrong because your basically bringing back your old memories about the cat back and technically thats not the same cat if you understand what im saying. every cat or animal for that fact is truly unique

An interesting idea. As I am becoming more convinced that animals have souls though I wonder about this. Like they said the animal will never be the same as it's predecessor. I wonder how close they would be? I mean I love my dog for who she is, not for what she looks like. I'm not going to say it's wrong but I'm not going to say it's right either!!

Would it even have a soul?
I'd be more creeped out than excited. I wouldn't want it. Death is a part of life, and everyone experiences it at one point in their life. To have something that is supposed to be dead, but it actually isn't will be weird and gives people a false sense of being immortal.

It will never be THE SAME pet!!! The life experiences will be different and can alter the personality, so why spend that much money just to have one that looks like the former pet????
It also just darn creepy!!!!!!!
