I'm presuming Chinese (Cantonese & Mandarin) although Hindi can give it a run for the money as well with many Indian inhabitants in nearly every foreign country still speaking and assimilating culture, language, and traditions.

It's hard to say. I'll check back because I am interested.

English is undoubtingly the first so I cannot understand why many would say it's second????????? Look at every foreign manual you get overseas and in the states, most policy makers, school educators, and international firms speak English as their preferred second choice in succession to their native tongue. However, as the question above poised for 'popularity', English is undeniably the primary popular language of choice globally (learned after the native tongue) among many nation's which attempt to learn in order to facilitate operation and administration.
If English isn't the first then I would have to say it only falls short shy to Chinese (population wise).

but chinese is the language spoken the most (with almost 2 billion chinese, it isn't that surprising....)
