you don't want to be living alone with only cats as your company....wouldn't you want a husband and family of people surrounding you, not a family of cats?

I dont know why society thinks that a woman who is living alone with cats is spinster or a scary thing.
Personally i find it discrimination. The same happens when you say to people that you are married but you have five cats and they look at you as if you are an allien. I dont understand it.
Cats are adorable animals.
You are a cat lover? If you wish you can contact me :)
I have five cats i dont live alone but people think i'm still crazy and scary since instead of kids i have cats!!!!

Its just a saying that refers to old women with no husband or family, they eventually get a butt load of cats to keep them company instead of going out and doing something with their life. Of course there is nothing wrong with having a couple cats, but come one, having 15 cats is a little crazy. Usually when people say this its nothing serious. Sometimes I joke about being one of those women.... being 60 with 12 cats doesn't sound like fun to me!

Sadly the majority of "collectors" are older women that live alone....with a TON of cats!!!!
I am a Vet Tech at a cat shelter, and the rescues that we have done to remove cats from hoarders, almost ALL of them have been lonely old ladies!!!!!!!!
Not that all females that live alone with cats are mentally ill or will become collectors, just watch out!!!!!!! Some do!!

Women who live alone with only cats give the impression that they have given up on life, on men and on children, cats are child substitutes for the lazy woman (they look after themselves). Cats are also ever so slightly evil, and they seem to look down on people (men don't respond well to this) but women who keep cats seem to be OK with being treated like dirt => no self esteem - why should we think highly of you when you voluntarily allow an animal to look down on you? Cats also seem to take pleasure in making men uncomfortable - my sisters' have clawed my groin, slashed their claws at my face while i was asleep and attacked her boyfriends toe (which my sister though was funny until he bled on her carpet - then HE though it was funny), Cats & men are like oil and water. women who want cats don't want men

From a guy, that for some reason knows the whole deal. I would bet you wanna be in love, and have a long meaningful relationship, and a perfect wedding, and............lets cut the BS. You live with cats because they give you the compaionship you're looking for. guys veiw it as if you have time for pets, your not out having fun with friends, or out going enough to make your own fun. so if they date you you'll be locked on thier hip everywhere thay go. "not cool"

IF you think that pets make better company than people, then get more pets and don't answer the door or the phone, and by the way, ditch the internet becasue I don't think there are any cats on here.

Men will always be jealous of cats... I sing love songs replacing "you", with Moo (my cats nickname) and my boyfriend gets jealous...maybe because I don't serenade him;)

It really refers to people who "hoard" animals and it's actually a mental illness.
