he used to say good things to me but i though he is one of the players he dint stop telling me till now i dont understand him, is it awkward for a girl to ask for a date from a man coz i beleve this gay is shy he said it him self one day that he cant face me after not replying his sms in which he said all the things he could say to get me.

He might like you. If you like him, you could say something to him and see what happens.
I know it feels awkward but he is sending you all kinds of signals that says he's interested so your chances are good.
