Don't know where your mom's getting her information from, but you can't get an infection from swimming with a dog! The chlorine in the water would kill any bacteria anyway.

She may not want the dog in your pool because it can scratch and ruin the expensive liner and the hair can clog the filter. If your dog isn't trained properly, it can scratch you up pretty bad while you're swimming.

This website has a section about swimming in a pool with your dog.

I have Newfies and we do Water Rescue training and swim with them all the time, for about 15 years now. I have never heard of getting an infection from a dog by swimming with them.
I have 3 girls, 6,8,and 11, and they swim with the dogs also.
Your mom is WRONG!!!!

You might get an infection because you're a girl?!?!

That's absurd. Have your Mom call your family physician for proof that you will NOT get an infection by swimming with your dog.

Sorry but your mom is telling you some old wives tale. I swam with dogs all my life. The water is chlorinated for a reason LOL

Well if its a chlorinated pool the chemicals clean up most germs, if its in the ocean, lake, pond etc... there are many more dirty things in there than your dog, I have never heard of a female getting an infection from a dog in the water,,,,people are more infected than canines.beleive me!

Above person is right! The only thing you might get from your dog is scratched by her nails if you get too close.
