when you're pregnant and breastfeeding what you put in your body goes right to your baby.

that being said, i doubt one cigarette is going to affect him in any serious way. he may have gotten a bit of a nicotine buzz, but that's all.
you have to think of the prospect of SIDS too. if you smoke around your infant that can increase your chances of SIDS.

i would not beat yourself up over this, but i would stop smoking until at least you stop breastfeeding.

my mom quit smoking for each of us kids...however, with my sister she admitted she smoked for the last few months of pregnancy....the interesting thing...my sister is smaller than my brother and i, however, she never had near the health problems we did. we had allergies, asthma, heart burn..the list goes on...
i always thought that was interesting.

so, don't beat yourself up, just keep up the quit until you stop nursing.

take care. i'm sure you're a great mom.

Cigarette toxins are not secreted through your milk. The most significant harm is second hand smoke. You seem aware of what can happen if the use is continued, so here is a bit of advice. When you are stressed and eager for relief, get out the stroller and clear your mind with the natural way : FRESH AIR. If timing isn't right to do so,, put your child in his/her crib, close the door and take a deep breath. Please do not leave your child alone for more than 10-15 minutes. It could be a bad bowel movement, hunger pains or trouble adjusting to this way of living. Good luck and know you always have support.

I smoked when I was pregnant and I was told while nursing that I had to wait at least 1 1/2 hours before breastfeeding my baby. I ended up not breastfeeding, but he did get some breast milk for the first 6 months. I know alot of women who have smoked while pregnant and they all have beautiful children. I am now one of them women.

You will feel "safer" if you pump and throw away this batch.
I hope everything is calmer for you. It is VERY stressful to have a baby to care for, all while the rest of the world wants you too. No body really warns us of the level of exhaustion that comes with new motherhood. You will do fine tho' billions of us have made it thru, and you will too.

The one cigarette will not hurt, but I would not continue smoking. Good for you quitting for the baby, I did too and it really bothers me to see people smoke while pregnant.

why are you so inconsiderate of your baby's well being. If you had already quit smoking then do it for your baby. Dont you want to see him grow up to be a man and know your grandchildren. If he could talk he would tell you the same thing.

One cigarette won't hurt him but as the child of parents that smoke, there is a lot of truth to second hand smoking. I have severe allergies because of it and my sister had a heart attack in her late thirties (previously healthy tennis player and cheerleader in high school).

Make sure you don't have anymore slips.

One should not hurt him but do both of you a big favor. Don't have any more it could hurt him. And it will hurt you. Ask your self if you wont to watch him grow up? If the answer is yes than don't ever have a norther one.

He will be fine, just try not to do it again. Congrats on quitting when you became pregnant. I just quit 2 years ago and it is a very hard thing to do.
