I did my condo in red, black and gray. The right shade of gray really pops the black and red. It becomes the accent color to showcase the red and black. The combination is wonderful for a contemporary decor. In my home, I used red, black and gold for a more elegant, traditional decor. Either way, the look is bold and sophisticated. Have fun!

I have done a few red, black and white rooms and even though I agree about white being bland, it looks great with black and red accents. maybe you could do 3 walls white and one wall red. Do the trim on all the walls black. With all the black and red stuff in the kitchen, the white will help everything stand out so it doesn't " get lost". It will help your theme I PROMISE! Hang some black and white pictures in red frames on the walls to help make the walls more exciting!

Red is an amazing color for walls. If you find it will be too much red for the space, try only painting one wall in the red. An accent wall, to make it a focal point. Look for a red with more brown in it then blue. Hope this helps.

I'd suggest a softer shade/tint of the same red.

Not much else in the form of adding a third color needs to be be done.

maybe i just dont know that much about decorating because to me white is the only color that will offset the red and black unless you make the walls red also

If you want it very sober you can go for ivory or beige. Anything a bit more better will be a shade of apple or sage. As all these colours make the room look bigger.
