No mine are not. However, I did know my faternal grandparents and I total agree grandparents are the best. You can learn so much from them. If you have living grandparents, I totally recommend that you take the time to listen to what they have to say!

My paternal grandfather passed when my dad was 12 or 16. My maternal grandmother passed when my mom was 21, just after my older sister was born. I knew, and loved, my other two grandparents. My paternal grandmother (Grandma Betty Jo; yea it's country but she was from Alabama) was my best friend. She died from lung cancer right before my 9th birthday. I still miss her everyday. My maternal grandfather was a wonderful man. He was kind of a class clown for his whole neighborhood (there was this man across the street from him who was an asshole to all the kids so my grandpa spray painted his fence!). He passed from throat cancer shortly after marrying his second wife.
My husband still has all his grandparents and they consider me their granddaughter. It means so much to me that do but it's just not the same. I'm very grateful my son has all of his grandparents.

My dads mom passed the day b4 my 13th bday. My moms dad passed when I was a senior in hs, her step dad the yr after. My dads dad passed when I was in my 20's and my only living grandparent is my moms mom. We are a close knit family and shes all I have left. Unfortunately, she had a few strokes that left her unable to walk n talk anymore and shes now in a nursing home. My daughters however, are very lucky, all their grandparents are still living.

I have 3 of my 4 grandparents still living... I love them all, but the one that I was closest to (and in my opinion, one of the most wonderful people ever) passed away when I was 21 - but we really lost her 10 years earlier when she developed alzheimer's...
I cherish memories of her teaching me how to make strawberry jam, crocheting (little, delicate snowflakes) and all the time that she spent with me before the alzheimer's.
