go to your local phone book and look up: catholic charities and ask for housing manager, I did. and they help you to know how much you can afford in a house.
1) your income coming into your household
2) how much you pay out
a) utilities
b) credit card bills
c) car payments/insurance
d) food/lunches and for the home
e)cable and phone bills
f) any loans
g) what you spend on miscellaneous things/ buying presents
h) what you spend on clothes
i) if you have kids/ what you spend on them for christmas and birthdays
j) any pets and what you spend on them
k) life insurance policies
add all these expenses up for the month and then subtract from your income
this what they did for me and that tells you what you can put for a house payment.
take this info to the catholic charities, when set up an appointment.

Not really. Lenders need to see your ability to pay a debt so they look at your credit report. If there is nothing, then there is no way for them to determine how you will pay them back. They probably won't take that risk.
