We must accept people the way there are not what we want them to be.

I know many muslims as I live in an area where they are in a majority and have also taught muslim teenagers. I.even had a couple of muslims in my Christian Religious Education. They did not want to do Islamic Religious Education because they disagreed with some of the things in the syllabus Presumably because the syllabus was prepared by the 'other' sect. I can honestly say that I do not know a single muslim who I consider a bad person.
I am not in any way an expert but I have a theory about Islam base on my experiences and reading.
I sincerely believe that Islam is based on a collection of ideas put together by Mohammed and his friends. (The word Quran, incidentally translates "he collected things together'.) At that time and in the area where he lived, Mohammed and his contemporaries would have been exposed to quite a lot of Christianity and Jewish practices. They would have been approached by religious elders of both faiths with the idea of preaching and conversion, so he would have also learned about some of the beliefs. In addition there were Christians and Christian converts living around. In fact one reliable historian has said that it was Mohammed's sister-in-law who told him about the angel Gabriel being a messenger of God; this information was later used to explain Mohammed's knowledge of 'God's revelations.'. However, the Bible was in Latin, with no Arabic version, and the Jewish Scriptures were mostly in Aramaic, also with no Arabic version. Furthermore many of the religious concepts were incomprehensible or totally unacceptable to the Arabs. With these points in mind, they could not accept either faith, but probably saw the good of having some religion. So, I believe they collected some of what they had learned together with some Arabic culture and traditions and wrote the Quran.

To me it is the only reasonable explanation as to why the Quran contains so much which is similar to the bible, but rather mixed up, rather like someone relating a story they have been told, but never really understood, with a few very disagreeable points still in it, but completely changed, so as to be acceptable to Arabs. It also explains how many Jewish rituals and practises are still part of the Islamic way of worshipping today.
God bless.

I used to think, before reading the quran, that islam was a peaceful religion and that terrorists were interpreting it wrong. However, I found I was the one that wrong.

I have now read the quran and I found it horrible in a lot of parts, but mainly ridiculous. Being an atheist, yes I don't think any religion is worth following, but Islam really really shouldn't be followed. My perception of it is moving to a cult the more i learn and understand, even from pro-islam sites, they don't get it but much of what they preach is considered amoral in a western society.

I really don't like Islam, I think it is a religion that promotes extremism and I am fully aware that they would prefer the world to be run under shariah law, which again is horrendous as seen by the poster above.

I now, after research, don't like Islam, whereas before I only thought it as pointless as any other religion.

All religions are difficult to understand by outsiders. I see there are many good rules. And some rules I don't like are often said not to be in the Koran. However, the direction the Islam goes in Pakistan and the Arabic world I do not approve. Just like I did not approve the direction the Catholic and Protestant believe took in Northern Ireland. I think it is important for Islam to accept criticism and think about the rules that are set.

In this world it is necessary to accent other religions and not placing your own religion above others. Christians used to do that and now many Muslims in the Arabic countries and Pakistan do that also. That has a devastating effect.

Like all religions, I have a low opinion of Islam because I am an atheist. The amount of praying and dedication of effort that muslims put into to their religion is a gross misuse of their time and could be better spent doing something more useful. As a feminist, I particularly do not like the way that the women dress and the arranged marriage aspects of the religion. However I do not like or approve of any organised religion.

However whilst this is my personal opinion, I would never want to stop anyone from doing what they think is right for them. It is up to the individual to take responsibility for themselves. I have met a lot of friendly, pleasant muslim people. As long as no one attempts to convert me to a religion, I have no problem with them practicing their religion in the privacy of their own home.

The Christians trust that Jesus is the Son of God, area of the Trinity, Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Muslims trust that Jesus replaced into only a Prophet, an similar as Muhammad. Muhammad wrote the Koran and got here about 600 years after the time of Jesus. colleges only about continuously sturdy? Who you kidding down there? each undesirable component about Islam has been white washed out of textual content books with our new Politically perfect garbage. I studied Islam from Muslims, there are issues about it that I do appreciate, yet come on, only because Muslims have succeeded in writing their own textual content in the universities that's amazingly kind to them, do not trust for a 2d that what the universities are real! wish this helps!

Give a dysfunctional person any idea and they'll create trouble with it. This happens to Islam, which can be a very peaceful, educational and community minded religion, but in dysfunctional hands, it becomes a weapon of war.
Bullies often imagine they are being victimised by the world. Actually, they just never got over their upbringing.

I had to study Islam a bit at school, and it seems very religious, very family orientated, close knit communities. But then in the news you get an entirely different picture, you see men beating up their wifes, and hating everyone and plotting to take over the world.
Do you think it could be a propaganda thing?

Monotheism.

I wouldn't become Muslim because it doesn't make sense to me, but I respect Muslims for their dedication to their religion.

I don't see the point in having a dedication to a set belief pattern for myself though. The Universe is just not that simple if you ask me. I learn new things everyday, so it would be immposible for me to say ONLY this one book/religion is completely right and true, because it is not like that. No book can tell you all the secrets, but you can learn from all books non the less.
