Place the lobster in the pot and cover with cool water and half a bottle of white wine. Put the pot on the stove on medium heat and slowly bring to the boil. The lobster will be lulled off to sleep by the wine and slowly warming water. There is no thrashing about, the lobster doesn't need to be tied up, nor does the lobster try to get out of the pot. All is quiet and the lobster appears to just go to sleep.
The water from cooking your lobster should not be wasted, it makes a wonderful base for lobster bisque.

I have often pondered this question. In Animal Physiology class we had to destroy the nervous system of a frog while keeping its body alive to measure muscle movement. (Bear with me until I get to the point.) We 'pithed' the frog, which means we poked its head with a pointy instrument really fast in a certain spot that destroyed its central nervous system. At that point the frog's body was alive but it did not feel a thing. That has always made me think about pithing a lobster; in one second, it feels absolutely nothing. It happens so incredibly fast that I don't think that it can register any pain for a split second. Afterwards, you have a live lobster to cook, but you do not torture it. All this may sound unpleasant, but it is the fastest and most humane way that I can think of. I have never done it because I would want to research first in exactly what spot to pith it. I certainly would not want to cause the creature any pain, and just poking around not knowing what one is doing could cause a lot of damage and is inhumane in its ignorance. So I don't recommend any of you to do it either unless you get advice from a biologist on exactly how to do it. It will be alive and it will feel nothing -- exactly the goal.
By the way, if you put the lobster in the freezer for a couple of hours, you would traumatize it and make it feel very uncomfortable for a long time. The cold does numb its nerves, but it's not fast enough. Though it will relax its muscles so that the meat is tender.

I feel exactly the same way about lobster. Of course, if i had to kill everything I eat....I would be a vegetarian. But, love that steak and lobster too much! I feel a bit of a hypocrite saying this....but I'll be over it next time I'm hungry. Hey, just read the freezing remarks above...Freezing slowly to death doesn't sound like a better way to go to me.

Yes the best way to humanely kill a lobster is to put them in a freezer for an hour or two which puts them to sleep and eventually kills them. Then you can put them straight into the boiling pot of water without having to hear the death curdles.
Good Luck

What do you mean by humanely KILL? killing is not humanely ,so try to get over the way the lobster dies and just enjoy it for what it is.
P.S. Do you know how caws are killed(slaughtered)? If you did you would probably think twice before you took a bite of that next juicy burger...

place the lobster interior the pot and cover with cool water and 0.5 a bottle of white wine. positioned the pot on the range on medium warmth and slowly deliver to the boil. The lobster would be lulled off to sleep by the wine and slowly warming water. there is not any thrashing approximately, the lobster would not could desire to be tied up, nor does the lobster attempt to get out of the pot. All is quiet and the lobster looks to purely pass to sleep. The water from cooking your lobster should not be wasted, it makes a dazzling base for lobster bisque.

It has to be dumped in boiling water. It won't feel a thing- the boiling water will make it's nervous system just short out.

no there isn't. if you kill a lobster before cooking it will taste funky.
a lobster that you get live should be cooked that way.
trust me on this one, a lobster doesn't suffer. they are cold blooded and succumb as soon as they go into the hot water.
