Anything from candy like Starburst, to granola bars, we are slowly getting more ripped off. When I was young, I could get a pack of Starburst for 40-50 cents and they were big squares of chewy goodness. Now days, they cost a dollar and are also much smaller quares. Also, clearly you can fit 16 granola bars in a box labeled for 10. I understand packing a little air in a bag of chips so we don't end up with all broken chips, but the companies are getting ridiculous with it. Some of you older people may notice that the ounces marked on various products is lower now than years ago, yet the box is the same size and the price still goes up. Why?

EDIT ADDITION: I'm sorry, but by "portions getting smaller" I mean the amount they put in the packaging, not a "serving" that someone eats. To be honest, I don't eat that much at all. I would lose eating contests.

There is one simple reason...

1) Companies want to make profits, so if they are able to produce a product cheaper, they will do anything to reach that goal. Including packing less and less.

It is our jobs as concerned and hopefully educated consumers, that we notice these changes and react accordingly (i.e. ask the company or buy the cheaper brands.)

I hate to tell you, but portions have been getting larger and larger; your appetite has probably been getting disproportionately larger too. I have noticed that I eat much larger portions than the dainty ones I used to have 10 years ago. We're in the same club! lol
