I think they should because it is a bond that must be shared with their children, and the more it is talked about the less chance children will make mistakes such as unwanted pregnancies and sexually transmitted diseases.
Parents should be aware of their childrens development and how much they should know at the age they are.

Teenagers are new to the hormones that are suddenly rushing through them. If you don't tell them anything about the process, then they may find out the hard way. If you don't advocate safe sex (after abstinence, but that one's unlikely in this day and age), they have a good chance of getting a STD or pregnant (if you have a daughter). If you don't explain that sex isn't just about the bodies but is also about the feelings that two people have for each other, they might do more than they will be happy living with later just because they can; no one is giving them a good reason not to. If you don't talk with your kids about sex, some other bad things can happen, like girls getting raped. I'd rather my daughter know what happens, what can cause a guy to think that she wants it and how to get out of a situation than keep her ears virgin at the same time I'm trying to keep her body that way.

Parents should teach their kids about the world in all sorts of ways. It's a good idea for parents to get involved with their kids lives, teach them math, and grammar, and science if they know it. They should teach their kids about health, and their bodys. It's just plain a good idea to share your knowledge about the world with your children, wither it be about sex or not.

I'm going to chime in with I_don't_know and Crabby_Lion and a couple of others: It's about protecting the kids. (Which is, or should be, Job Number One for parents.)
Life is hard enough for all of us; why make it harder for vulnerable youngsters by leaving them in ignorance? There can be no excuse for such negligence on the part of parents and educators.

Actually, the CORRECT question should be, "Why AREN'T parents teaching their kids, about SEX EDUCATION?"
We've got it hard-wired, into us, that if we teach our kids, about SEX, then they'll go out and "explore" - and get into TROUBLE! (It's, rather, THE EXACT OPPOSITE!)
When better informed, the kid(s) will have a "less than likely" chance, of getting into TROUBLE.... And, be more equipped to handle ANY PROBLEMS, that might arise!
.....We're forgetting ONE IMPORTANT FUNDAMENTAL: AS A PARENT, it is our sole responsibility, to prepare our child(ren), for the world, that they're about to enter.... and, for the parent, to NOT teach their child(ren), about SEX, it's not just, MORALLY, wrong -- it's, DOWNRIGHT, DANGEROUS -- ESPECIALLY, in Today's World!

so when the situations arises in their childs life, the child can have an idea of precautions to take Also, any discussions envolving children and their parents is setting a good foundation for communication and mutual respect for eachother, which in tern gives a child a better sense of morality as well as mortality and helps guide them into making wiser choices in their life

Their children are going to learn about sex whether they teach them or not. So, they might as well talk to them about it so that they can learn about it from them and not from their friends, who won't be much of a credible source.

Because what a teenager doesn't understand or are curious about they will learn through other methods and from other people which you may not approve of.
