as with what most people have said here eat more, exercise...

if you just want to gain overall weight eat a balance of fat, carbohydrate and protein. neglecting one group can have negative effects. I was not getting enough fat for a while when I first went vegan and it made recovery after exercises difficult.

if you are trying to build muscle mass then you should up your protein intake but don't skimp on the other groups. I like tofu as a cheap source of protein that i can throw in pretty much anything. I also like beans for protein and carbs... burritos full of beans and fresh veggies, what a great post workout food!

You are advised to increase total caloric intake and follow the recommendations of the Food Guide Pyramid by consuming a variety of nutrients from different food groups. Stop immediately if you are on any special diet or programme for weight loss. Please consult a dietitian for your specific nutritional needs and seek medical advice if you lose weight unintentionally or progressively.

Eating fish may help prevent heart disease in several ways. It may replace red meat or other less-healthy sources of protein. And the omega-3 fats in fish appear to protect the heart against the development of erratic and potentially deadly cardiac rhythm disturbances.
There are two main categories: polyunsaturated fats (which are found in high concentrations in sunflower, corn, and soybean oils) and monounsaturated fats (which are found in high concentrations in canola, peanut, and olive oils). In studies in which polyunsaturated and monounsaturated fats were eaten in place of carbohydrates, these good fats decreased LDL levels and increased HDL levels.
