It depends upon the relationship the rest of the time!

However, if a person drinks a lot during the world cup, and ignores their loved ones, they are likely to be the same all the time. But, if you keep the drinking to a reasonable amount, there is no reason why it should affect relationships!

Having said that, the Samaritans and the police say it can be a busy time. Apparantly, domestic violence does increase during the world cup.

I think that if you cannot respect your family during the world cup, can you do so at other times? I am not a football fan, but my husband watches the matches.

He has it much worse - I like motor racing and he doesn't - and the F1 season is an annual thing!

But we treat each other with respect and let the other watch what they want - we simply know it is not worth the end of the relationship to stop the other watching the sports! But we both know the family comes first! So, in our case, the drinking and not paying loved ones the attention they warrant does not affect our home life irreparably!

You obviously think it may - I was wondering why? Do you need to know how to cope if your partner gets drunk and ignores you during the world cup? If it was me, I would make sure that I went out during the games (perhaps go away for a week on a cheap holiday?) and ignored my partner, just for the length of the world cup!

yes I do think it affects family relations. I don't drink so no hangovers, and my g/son is having a great time teaching me the tactics of every game (yawn behind my hand) so he's paying more attention to me that I could hope for by testing my knowledge daily! He's a typically non-cuddly, independent young 12 y/o so it makes me feel good. My advice fwiw is try to show some interest even if you're not, after all for the other 3 years and 11 months don't we females demand undivided attention?!

If You're in a Good Relationship...Your Partner should understand that following the World Cup Games is one of your Passions in Life...It is a Temporary Event, lasting approximately 4 weeks...and, Only happens Once every 4 Years!

But to be fair...You should consider helping out as much as possible, when there isn't a "big" game on!

( Hopefully, You respect Your Partner's Passions, as well...When The Shoe is on The Other Foot! )

Yes definately as men usually are selfish some would have gone over to the match spending money that might not be afforded. If their team loses they may take it out on the wife and children. They will hog the tv or go down the pub getting drunk etc. I am not saying all men are like that and I am sure there may be some women who are as bad but on the whole some families will suffer or break up.

I got locked in the bathroom and everyone was watching the match so I had to climb out of the window and slither 20ft to the ground below. So yes it affected me physically cos I got bruises and maybe affected the home too.... the guttering is looking a bit shaky now.

I think it does because i haven't seen much of my boyfriend since the world cup started cuz hes either at work or watching the footie. We also drink more when the footie is on so we argue more.

maybe for sometime, neglet can result within the family, children or wives can feel this. This would only be for the world cup season though, and life normally gets back on track after its over.
