You may be allergic to the sulfates or something in the shampoo if you said what type do you use would have helped me help you...if I were you I would find a natural shampoo that or a clarifying one first then see if one of them will help to clear it up if not see a dermatologist.
Also it could be the type of water you are using to wash your hair in.

The reason your hair is so D@3n itchy is because you probably wait so long to wash it and when you do wash your hair it reacts like that and if your not doing that then disregard that. Its itchy because its breathing and the little grains are built up scabbs or dandruff. To fix this problem you need these types of shampoos or greases:First off,"Sulphur 8":is a shampoo that specializes in damaged and itchy sclap. This also treats bad dandruff problems and sores caused from either leaving a perm in to long or scratching too hard on your scalp.Second Recommendation is:Head & Shoulders(if they still make it).this shampoo specializes in treatingg dandruff alone.Third recommendation is:Infusium 23:this shampoo is in all the salons that iv ever visited and is available in retail stores also.It has about 4or 5 different volumes to choose from for whatever need you have. This shampoo is great for deep cleansing. This should almost definately help the "sand" problem. If by any chance you dont want anymore shampoo help then result to using "Sulphur 8 hair and scalp grease after shampooing or any moisture for that matter because 9 out of ten, your scalp is itchy because its dry.

Do you give yourself a hot oil treatment ever? That may help. There are porducts for itchy scalp sold in all drug stores, usually in the black hair care product area. Try one and then shampoo with Nizorzal for dandruff. It may help to medicate your scalp a little.

go to a dermatologist.
What your describing is sounding like eczema of the scalp but it could be a million things.
You could be allergic to common shampoos. I used a shampoo once and it reacted that ways. It could be something in conditioners. Is there anything that alleviates it? Oil treatment? Maionaisse? Have you tried an over the counter treatment for eczema? What your describing is not normal and I would seek professional help if it was me.

You may talk to a dermatologist. You may be allergic to a common ingredient in most shampoos. Have you tried Paul Mitchells Tea Tree Shampoo. It is wonderfull for itchy scalp. I would use a leave in conditioner as well.

There is a product called tea tree oil that you can buy thru Paul Mitchell or you can go to you local health store and get it too. You apply it to your scalp only and massage it in. Don't use too much or else you'll be oily, but you should do this about twice a week for 10 days. If this doesn't help I would visit your dermatologist.

If the flakes are dry then it could be a scalp condition or eczema, in which case you should see your doctor. If you really don't want to, try using E45 Dry Scalp Shampoo.
If the flakes are sticky, then it's most likely dandruff. Try Head and Shoulders, if this doesn't work, see your doctor.
Either way, if it doesn't clear up, you should go to the doctor, they can assess you properly.

Skip a day or 2 from washing it allow it's natural oils to build back up. Also drink a lot of water your body needs more moisture.Rub some avacado or aloe vera through your hair allow it to soak in all night then rinse in the morning skip the shampoo until hair get's oily.

try to use a cholesterol scalp treatment ....you can pick it up anywhere but the best place to get one is Sally's beauty supply. Then apply to the scalp for as many minutes as possible..Of course it would be wise to go to the doctor just for them to have a look to make sure you don't have a skin condition.
