If the Government is complaining about the illegals not paying taxes, they whey don't they make them pay their back-taxes and some other fees, maybe charge an immigrationt tax, get their medical exams, learn english if they don't already know it, do back ground checks, and put them on probation for a few years, but making the immigrant pay out-of-pocket. Get 'em a tax ID # (maybe a temporary visa) and they are set, and the government has it's money back and then some. Maybe a little comunity service would be in order, but maybe deportation would be a little over the top. If it's the cost isn't worth it to the (formerly) illegal worker then they can deport themselves by paying their own way back home. Otherwise we can go back to the ol' lock 'em up and ship 'em out. If they are given a strict time limit then the majority of those here will be taken care of and the government could afford to get rid of those that don't want to pay for their actions.
Waddya think about that? Tell me.

You've got some interesting ideas there but if I.N.S. doesn't enforce current immigration law what makes you think any new laws will be enforced? Well "doesn't enforce" isn't exactly accurate. Politicians don't let the Immigration Dept. do it's job. Senior officials of the I.N.S. have been forced into early retirement because business owners complained to their senators and congressmen about loosing workers.
Many illegals already have tax ID numbers. It was the governments idea so that illegals can pay taxes. The best part is that now these tax ID numbers can now be used instead of social security numbers to get mortgages. So now illegals can buy houses. I have some illegal alien neighbors that bought the house next to me. In the 4 years they've been there I haven't had one conversation with them because THEY CAN'T SPEAK ENGLISH! However I still get to pay to educate their illegal alien children for free.

Actually the 'government' isn't against immigrants because they don't pay taxes.
Most immigrants who work in the United States make less than or close to minimum wage. People making such a small amount of money each year do not pay income tax.
The reason most Republicans oppose illegal immigrants is because the illegal immigrants use more services than they pay into the system. Democrats don't mind illegal immigrants because Democrats want more socialistic type of services passed into law and want the immigrants to vote for them. This is why Democrats tend to support amnesty and giving voting rights to immigrants while Republicans tend to prefer sending them back.

The reason poor immigrants are limited under the immigration laws of all developed countries is that we subsidize education and other services for the poor, even if they pay all applicable taxes. Perhaps for cultural reasons, immigrants and particularly illegal immigrants disproportionately use public dole programs like health care for indigents and welfare than do native Americans of the same income classes.
The schools in our border states are already failing our children. They are underfunded and overcrowded. ESL programs are amongst the most expensive programs to fund, and ESL students slow instruction for others. Illegal immigrant children in our border states virtually all fall into the ESL category.
Their better life is at the expense of upward mobility through education for our own children.
Immigration programs need to provide a sane, sustainable growth that does not deprive native citizens of vital services such as a good education. Once determined according to those guidelines, immigration programs need to be enforced.
If proper border security and employer sanction were in place and magnet programs for illegal immigrants going forward were dismantled, I would be in favor of legalization of screened illegals already here, so long as they were not also able to bring in family. However, that support on my part depends on their being strict enforcement of a sane immigration policy going forward.

I would guess that most illegals are not making enough money to be taxed if you see what lower incomes are not taxed.
If they are working in a position in which they are making enough money, the business most likely withholds taxes unless they are self employed. this means federal, state, ss and medicaid. also if self employed the companies that are paying someone generous amounts of money report the payments on 1099's.
it is doubful that most are going to pay back taxes anyway from what i could tell.
I do agree, it makes more sense to find ways to get these illegal immigrants the chance to better themselves by making their work above the board. in the long run it would make it less likely to be exploited.

But that's exactly what Senate is trying to do.If they've lived in USA for 5 years or longer then :
1. They have to pay taxes back. (I think IRS will come out with some ideas how to do that.)
2.Pass criminal and medical check.
3.Pay in fees I think about $3600 .
4.Then they'll get visa for 3 years and another 3 years.
5.Then they have to work and pay taxes for 6 years.
6.Learn English and USA history.
7.Pass criminal check.
8. Then they can apply for green card.

The govt. doesn't have a problem with illegals. They will take anybody that will get exploited and abused for the companies to have cheap labor. It's the people that think illegals don't assimilate quickly enough to this countries culture. They forget that the pilgrims didn't learn to speak Native American, or start wearing feathers. By the way they do get taxed.

that only works for the illegals who want to come here for a better life and are honest people. and yes, its a good thought. we can kick all those other idiots out.
a lot of people who immigrate illegally first try it legally, see that the dept of immigration allows mostly criminals in, but that they're honest and have no chance, and that the only way they can come in is through illegal channels. they would be happy to pay taxes and some fees so that they could finally stay here for good.
but first we need to fix the dept of immigration. its a cesspool and a joke in foreign countries.
also: most illegals have been saving to come to the US for years. they do have some limited amount of money.

How do they tax people who have no SSN and do not report thier income to the IRS? The problem is these people work under the table and are illegal, meaning, they don't want the government to know they are here!

Paying Taxes, no matter how much, does not excuse you from breaking the law.
Deport is the only real long-term solution.

the only taxes they dont pay are income taxes. everything (rent/mortgage, bills, living expenses, food, commerce, ect) you pay for & are taxes on they pay too. your id card is a good idea. i think many of them would do it rather than the stress of deportation.
