take him to a park, go to the science museum(all touch-- dont have to keep saying"dont touch that")
get play doh, get crayons and let him color on blank paper(dollar stores have these)
get bubbles. he wants you to play with him too.
get outside with him, inside at winter time so get outside(only 3 to 4 months) of warm weather.
play chase with him(kids love this)
play "I spy" and then say a color/or something like tree or something
collect leaves and learn which tree they go to
collect bugs at nature parks.
go take a walk around your neighborhood, walking is good
6yr olds are easy to keep busy and they get more tired after spending the day outside and not watching endless amount of tv.
try clubmom.com moms there have good ideas too. I have joined it is a good site for moms.

The museam is free and often changes the themes, therefore they can be some variety so you can go a few times.
Tescos organise a family fun weekend at the Castle.
Swimming.
Techniquest.
Ameilia Trust farm (five mile lane) free and fun.
Barry Island beach (£2.40 return from Cardiff on train).
Plenty of green areas for picnics.
UCI - Cardiff Bay - can go to the cinema, go bowling or play in the arcade.
JUMP by the tax office in Llanishen - hours of fun in a safe indoor area.
Oooohhh, the list is endless. Grab a copy of the primary times. There's copies held in St Davids Arcade - by Claires accessories.
Have fun :-)

Children that age love physical activities and a variety of other activities. Bring along materials for painting. Go hiking. Bring books and toys, such as balls and perhaps some other games suited for children. The best thing to keep him busy, however, would be a playmate. See if you can find children around his age in Cardiff that he could play with.

Try giving him a journal to record scientific things he finds when he is out and about. Let him draw pictures if he can't write.
Give him a list of exercises to do when he wakes up. This will be his workout time ie: 5 jumping jacks,5 knees touches,5 hops, etc
Find shells, rocks to glue on a frame
Give him a camera to take pictures
Make snow with crushed ice and food coloring
Learn to play an instrument (drums release tension)
Paint on the ground with water
Reading is the best (borrow books on tape from the library)

There's a brillian museum on the outskirts of Cardiff, if you are staying at a hotel or a camp site, they will probably have details, if not any family oriented pub. You will probably find a lot of flyers in these spot for family orientated tourist attractions.

Start a collection of something..rocks, feathers, pressed leaves and flowers, even small insects...something that can go on every day, and also is an interest. In the evening you help him identify, sort and organise, and he goes back to school with a great holiday project.
You can do the same with holiday brochures and articles, and handouts too..
All free...and all tied in with the place..
You will enjoy it too, and that will make it even better..a shared ongoing project..
