That may be how your friend talks. But maybe that's because he's had run-ins with pretty ugly Protestants....

Your friend should not have called your other friend an "idiot". For one thing, ad hominem attacks alway expose the true "idiots" amongst us. Second, it gives innocent bystanders, like you, the false impression that all Catholics think all non-Catholics are idiots. Nothing good comes from ad hominem attacks.

For the record, the Catholic Church does indeed respect other faiths, especially the aspects of other faiths that are in sync with Catholicism. See? The Catholic Church recognizes Divine involvement with faiths outside of Catholicism. This is a good thing.

And, the Catholic Church does pray for them at mass. The reunification of Christianity is inevitable. It's in the Bible. The timing of this event is beyond us, but that never stops us Catholics from praying for Christian reunification.

Unfortunately, there are some Catholics who refuse to acknowledge this Catholic Truth that I just shared with you. But that Truth is not going to stop some Catholics from being arrogant or ignorant.

Sounds like your friend has a yearning for Catholic Apologetics. That's a good thing. But Catholicism needs good - real good - apologists. Poor ones, such as those who resort to ad hominem attacks or emotional arguments, will only damage the faith.

How a catholic speaks ? No it's how that Catholic speaks. Caught up in the heat of debate feeling confident, they may have chosen the wrong words but all can't be Paul my favorite apostle. Interesting thing about Paul he had a falling out with one of the young apostles. A inturpertation is he matured, learned and mended the relationship with this young apostle going on to become quite the example. I'm currenlty praying I get a raise or the price of gas goes down. I also am praying I get a new level on yahoo answers so I can answer more questions. I've never had so many people wanna know what I think on so many subjects.

Well, I am Catholic and I have never heard any other religion being called an idiot. I know we pray for all person who needs help and faith. That for sure is not referring the persons out there as idiots.

I am sorry your friend said this to your other friend about their faith. God or Jesus wants us to treat others with love and respect and I would not think this was a respectful and loving statement. Please tell you Catholic friend to pay a little more attention during Mass.

Before WW2 there was a civil war in Germany between Catholics and Protestants. The Catholics killed the Protestants and won.

Here is joke about that. In Catholic school the nun was asking kids what they wanted to be when they grow up. One girl said "I want to be a prostitute." The nun yelled "What did you say?" The girl said "I want to be a prostitute." The nun said "that is fine." You had me worried at first since I thought you said "protestant." See site below on more how Christians go against what Jesus taught.

Sounds like an Irish Bull - a bit of slang that has a double-entendre.

I don't think and Christian - Catholic or not - should condescend another. Teasing is one thing, and I can't tell from the context.

At Catholic Mass we usually pray for all Christians, for safety for the missionaries and for the grace that sustains us all.

If it wasn't teasing, it's time for this internecine conflict to end and for us to seek first the unity that is in Christ, and learn to live with our differences.

First of all both Catholic and Protestant are Christians and Protestant is not a different religion, it’s just a different type of faith or worship in Christianity ... I agree with Ally that this kind of arguments are kind of ignorance and we have enough problems to solve instead of arguing about this.

Imho, sometimes we're all tempted to speak like that when tempers get hot. It is a mistake we all have the "potential" to make and it has nothing to do with Catholics or Protestants. We all need the provision of God's wisdom and Christ's character to walk accordingly.

Apparently that is how that Catholic speaks, yes. But that is not all Catholics. However, we do pray for all people, so that part was right, just not very nicely put.
