They serve to promote a variety of activities school students all must attend alongside the standard study cirruculum.

Co-Curricular Activities (CCAs) are activities that schools or colleges in some parts of the world (like Singapore), or individual schools, organise for students. They often serve to promote leadership skills, personal development, healthy recreation, self-discipline and confidence in pupils, and to create a well-rounded curriculum. They often take place outside curriculum hours, and may include musical groups, sports, uniformed groups or clubs and societies.

Curricula expands to curriculum or what is known as course. We all study our courses. But experts believe they are not enough to develop an all round personality. So Co-curricula or Extra-curricular activities are suggested by them. As name suggets these are'Extra' to our 'studies'. Hence, they mean whatever is taken besides our courses.
These may include pursuing any personal hobby, like music, arts, crafts, painting etc.

"Co" means together with; curricula means course of study. So co-curricula probably means activities or studies that are done alongside (together with; at the same time as) your course of study.
