Okay. The whole sleep routine is something you have to start working on from the time the child is born. Otherwise you'll have problems. But....the best way I've found is to tell the child that they decide when they go to sleep. Put them in their room at a reasonable hour (7pm or 8pm for most kids) and tell them that as long as they play quietly, you won't bother them. The point is that you can't force anyone to go to sleep. But if you give your child some control over when he/she goes to sleep, you won't have to fight any more. If they are awake till midnight, so be it. But as long as you don't make a big deal of it, they'll start going to sleep earlier. The next day when they're tired....too bad! They don't get to sleep in just because they were up late. Your child will learn the lesson, guaranteed.

My son slept in his own bed and in his own room until he turned 2. He started having nightmares or night terrors at 2 and would come to me scared to death and crying till he would lose his breath. All I had to do was hug him up next to me and he would go right back to sleep. He got use to me being there if he would wake up, so now he has been sleeping with me for two year(he is 4 now). A lot of people will tell you to never let a child sleep with you because they will be to hard to get in their own bed, but I personally dont think it is that big of a deal. I just turn the lights and TV off and say bed time and we all go to bed and go to sleep. I say after 4 years of getting very little sleep, anything you have to do to get sleep (within reason) do it. We even bought a king size bed so that there is enough room for all of us.

The best way is to not have the 4 year old sleep in the day time. Keep him/her awake until it's time to go to bed. They will sleep good without even reading them a bedtime story. Goodluck

I have a 3 year old sister turning 4 next month...well the only way to get her to sleep is to hook up that cable, turn to disney channel then youll be surprised how fast he or she will learn. My sister learned how to count and say her ABC's, 123's u name it. And if they cant then move all the furnitures out and play a lil one on one in the living room...They'll get really tired and exhausted..then theyll fall asleep....If that doesnt work...be home by 5 oclock in the evening and take em swimming...trust me this **** works...

well not to mention the basics..reading and singing to them...and come to think of it..this is the best way to communicate with ur child. When its his or her bedtime...Talk to them like they are 16 years old...their future, what they want to do when they grow...my lil sister knows what she wants to do...and she reminds me everyday her dreams...if a child remains focused of what they know,,,then you will not have a problem with them...but there will be some in the near future...be prepared

To top it off "Train a child in a way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it."

Well it depends on the kid! If they want to read a story read but only one book! Sometimes soft music. Um if they want the light o or off you could do that (or have a night light!) make sure they understand that it's bed time NOT play time! Sometimes giving the water (as long as they go "potty" before bed) and stuff like that usually works

Ask them to close their eyes and breath deeply (saying breath in and breath out helps) then tell them a story. If you make it up instead of reading it, it eliminates the child's urges to look at the pictures and they can close their eyes and relax.

Make sure they get plenty of exercise during the day and remember to limit their nap time.
