Both.
I ask God to forgive my sins in Jesus' name.
I myself don't really know how to explain, but they are the same and yet not....

Actually, Christians pray to the Heavenly Father - because he is the one who forgives our sins and responsible for everything you eat, live... well almost anything. We ask all of this in Jesus' name as mentioned in John 14:13.
"I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son." (International Standard Version)

I think Christians pray to Jesus who then talks to The Father (even though they are the same God) and gets The Father to forgive us for our wrong doings

You pray to the Father, but Jesus takes your prayers to Him. If you don't pray in the Name of Jesus, it's as though God will not hear you...

When you pray to the Father you pray to Jesus Christ.
Jesus said He and the Father are one. When you see him you have seen the Father. Jesus is the fleshly body of God the Father who is spirit. You can't pray to one without praying to the other. Total package.

I pray to the Father through Jesus Christ.
Joh 14:6 Jesus said to him, I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life; no one comes to the Father but by Me.
Mat 6:6 But you, when you pray, enter into your room. And shutting your door, pray to your Father in secret; and your Father who sees in secret shall reward you openly.
Mat 6:7 But when you pray, do not babble vain words, as the nations. For they think that in their much speaking they shall be heard.
Act 8:22 Therefore repent of this wickedness of yours, and pray God if perhaps the thought of your heart may be forgiven you.
Rom 8:26 Likewise the Spirit also helps our infirmities. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.
1Th 5:17 Pray without ceasing.
1Ti 2:8 Therefore, I desire that men pray everywhere, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting.
Jam 5:16 Confess faults to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous one avails much.
