I had parked between two meters and put money in the one closest to my car. Turns out they checked the meter further away from the car and when I got back I had 30 mins left and a 20 dollar parking ticket. And also one for no front tag! Which was lame. But whatever. I'm moving to Florida tomorrow and this happend at a school i'm no longer attending. What would happen if they didn't get payed? What happends...hypothetically...?

Nowadays, it's handled like any other commercial debt. If you don't pay it, they will send it to a collection company, and it could eventually end up on your credit report. But it's administrative, not criminal, so you won't end up in court or with an arrest warrant, like for a moving violation.

Try writing a letter telling them your story, or and even better one if you can think of it, and ask them to waive the fine. Tell them that the meters were marked improperly and are confusing when it comes to which is which. Maybe tell them that your front plate was lost or stolen, and you have been waiting for another.

Anyway, it's worth a try, and it does work. Sometimes.

Well, after several attempts of trying to contact you (so they say) just like a city parking ticket they may issue you a warrant for you to appear before the court, small claims court or even night court and make sure you take $ money $ with you because you may get jail time and you may need some of that green stuff for
your bail.
Been there, done it, paid for the ticket at night court.

if you're still in the state the ticket was issued they can( if they are real ******* about it , issue a bench warrant so the next time you're ticketed they drag you in. if you move out of state, they can't get you. the time limit for tickets varies from state to state
