I also own a Sun Conure...named Conner....lol...and I have watched my dad (when I lived with them)...cut his wings for me.
What you do is...stretch the wing out...hold him upside down (it is best to have someone else hold him so you can cut...or vice-versa)...(hold him in a towel, so he doesn't bite you)
ok, stretch the wing out...and looking at the underside of it...you should see the part of the feathers that connect them to him...You can see that it is kind of clear, but then as it gets closer to the actual wing, it gets darker...thats where the blood is...you don't want to cut there...cut a little but away from it..(I am trying to explain this to where you can understand it....lol)...anyways...just nip the ends of it. You will see how the feathers grow...some of them are shorter than the others...they are at an angle kind of...you want to keep it like that...
I hope I explained this as to where you can understand it...hehe..
Just make sure you don't cut too far up the feather on the wing...
Good luck!

It's very easy to trim feathers. When you hold the wing out and look at it from the bottom there will be two layers of feathers, the longer ones are called the primary (or flight )feathers and the shorter ones are called the secondary feathers. Just cut the primary feathers down even to the secondary feathers and thats it. There will be no blood in these feathers. Make sure you use sharp scissors for a clean cut. Good luck. P.S. It's always good to have a sulpher based coagulant on hand just in case you do get a bleeder, you can find this yellow powder at any pet shop. If you do get a bleeder just pack some of the yellow powder on the end of the feather until the bleeding stops.

Yes you can cut but just cut the tip of the feathers don't go to the root of the wings.

If you hold out his wing, you will see that their are two layers of feathers. The top layer is shorter than the bottom layer. Always cut below the top layer which are the longer feathers and you will not hit a blood feather.

I have a conure as well...although she hates when I trim her wings...Look underneath near the top of the feathers...If the shaft of the feather is dark inside, it's a blood feather and you shouldn't cut it...

you have to watch where you cut the feather. Don't cut too far up. Some blood will be normal but you risk too much if you cut at the wrong place.

Ask a local pet store to show you. I work for a pet store and it is very easy to do once you know how but without seeing it first hand I think that it would be a bad idea to risk it. At least at the pet stores they have the blood stopper and the appropriate nail clippers for birds. good luck

If you have never done it before, DEFINITELY have someone who has show you how. It will save both you and the bird from injury. For the best results, both in looks and for the well-being of the bird, have it done professionally.

Wow...cutting them yourself is a bad idea. Try local listings for any pet shops in your area. I'm sure they know how to do it.
