We are not trying to be as great or greater than the Creator rather we are, by our work trying to mirror the greatness of our Creator. Each of us is a manifestation of God, an expression of God's Divinity, and an image of the infiniteness of God's Being. Our attempt at greatness is in no way a means to rival that of God's own grandeur and glory but a desire to express this grandeur and glory through ourselves. What better way for God to see the fruits of his labors than in the perfecting of his own Creation.
What many of us fail to realize is the unity of all of creation. We are all of the same stuff of which God is made of. In the beginning there is/was ONLY God, so what else could we be made of but of the same substance as that which is the only one in existence.
When we see others as separate from us, we lose this sense of unity or oneness with our Creator. Then and only then will the whole tower come tumbling down.

human being tries to do this many times , not just tower of babel ..
here are samples , human noticed that GOd given vehicle HORSE is not that fast and so humans try its best to create his own version of vehicle which was biclycle , motorcycle and then cars . human tries to seek more answer or better solution to his simple problem , and dont forget human easily get BORED when things are working well for years ..
in search for a new solution human didnt noticed that it tries to compete with GOd's creation , and thus making a new problem from its new solution .. sample the car gives polution and eventually destroy the atmosphere .. car can kill a man when it hit it , but horse can only give minor pains .
its was a mixture of discontentment and lust for new solution but not roughly targeted to GOD's competition .. if only human will stop innovating and stop looking for better solution and just use what GOD offer then HUman and life will go smoothly ..
human sometimes forgot that GOD as many people know is still not clear if real or not , while human is clear enough that it has its time to went back to soil .. once a human bites the dust all he can think of is GOD .. and then it will be clearer to him that GOD is GOD ..

Pride. Ego.
Some refuse the evidence that is around them, and so believe they are the greatest creatures on the planet. And to uphold this self-proclaimed greatness, memorials must be built.
In short, no, humans do not know their place. To teach this generation this lesson, there needs to be another earth shaking event to happen, much like the great Flood of Noah's day.
