She is only doing what comes naturally to her..She is protecting whats hers. You can't harm her for only doing her job. Just be careful next time and wear some protective clothing likes gloves etc. Harming her is the wrong thing to do.

If you're even considering harming the hen, then you porbably shouldn't have the ckickens. They peck to defend, unless they've been taught to be mean. A chicken is a creature with a small brain and that is mostly filled with informtaion that is coded in from the time chickens evolved. It ain't personal. ;)
That said, the easiest and least invasive way to deal with laying hens is AT NIGHT. They'll all be roosting (hens, roosters, etc.) and you can simply waltz into the area and take the eggs out, without getting pecked, at all. If she isn't sitting on the eggs at night (a lot of hens are goofy and will, if you allow them to) you can simply wander in to the nesting area, slip your handunder the fluffly feathers in the back and take the eggs out, without getting pecked, at all.
Good luck, and be nice to chickens!! LOL!

So? I got pecked a lot when I picked up eggs in the chicken houses I once worked in. Just be more careful or wear gloves next time. Kill the chicken and you get no more eggs, of course you can have chicken for supper one night. Ever dressed a chicken? First you chop its head off. Then you put it in boiling water. Then you pluck the feathers off it. Then you gut it. Then you wash it real good. Then you cut it up. Can you stomach that?
hot_angel (down there) Hens are the 'girl' chickens, they are she's not he's.

You were pecked by a hen? I have been spurred by a rooster. 49 stitches and a tetanus shot in the tooshie.
You better let her get away with it. Unless it is not fertilized, you should not be messing with it anyway.
If not, wait for a while- she will have to eat, so she will leave the nest.

Her pecking is a normal response. Wear gloves and get good at dodging. Don't take it out on her for doing her job. How would you like it if someone stuck their hand under your *** while sitting?

you've executed each thing incorrect. in the starting up, you need to in no way get 2 chickens,. You get 3 so as that if one dies, the last isn't lonely. Secondly, you purchased yet another unmarried one. Chickens can kill new chickens. you need to have were given yet another 2 so as that the first one turned right into a lot less in all likelihood to bully them badly. you won't be able to easily positioned them jointly. they pick to be in a run and homestead facet through facet so as that they can see one yet another and get used to at least one yet another, for more effective or less 2 weeks and then at evening at the same time as they have all lengthy gone to roost, positioned the novices with the triumphing one. in case you've not the centers to do issues proper, you need to no longer be holding them. I take it you do not comprehend what the different one died of and did not difficulty to quarantine the hot ones? Do you computer virus them in many cases and are they fed proper? Are they deloused in many cases and do you spray the homestead for redmites frequently? And if the useless one had Mareks, you'll lose all of them after all. i'm getting truly indignant that human beings get chickens with out doing any analyze into taking care of them proper, then reason monstrous suffering as they attempt to proceed to exist in flawed homes. in the journey that they had to pay a good number of money for the chickens, per chance they might take care of them more effective positive. Chickens do not deserve lots of the houses they finally end up in.

You stole her child! Almost every mother will die to try and save their children, its hardwired in the DNA. Wear a tough glove next time and it won't hurt.
