It's not the child's direct choice that people are talking about when they talk about free will.
I believe that there was no suffering or death before sin entered the world. Since the fall, evil has caused suffering, illness, and death. It is a result of having free choice, but it's not driven by cause and effect in an individual sense.
If there were no consequences of sin, we wouldn't leave it. Would it be loving to leave us in sin?
God shows His love and mercy in wanting us to avoid sin - the root of suffering - and by drawing us to Himself. There is comfort and rest with Him. He suffers with us. He has defeated death on our behalf.
He is loving even in the face of sin, evil, and suffering.

True people makes their own choices and so reap the punishments of their sins.
But lets say a five year old with a brain tumor. Is it the child's fault? No. Is it the child's choice? No. Then who is to blame?
Simple, the child's parents. While the child isn't blamed for the sins of the parents, the child will suffer the results of the parent's sins.

Evil and suffering are a result of the depraved human nature. It was not what the Creator intended. The fallen humanity require divine intervention to overcome this state. However, we can see that love and goodness also are existing in the midst of all these. We know that wheat and weeds grow together till the harvest, though no one really plants the weeds. At the harvest they get separated, never to be together again. Just because we see the night is dark can we say there is no light!

I see this argument too much. As for your answer it may upset you but here me out.
If a grown man raped a 3 year old kid is it Gods fault???
If you lied to your mother is it God's fault???
See mankind has either blaimed God or Satin for all the bad in the world and sometimes they say stupid things like God wants them back or we don't understand God's great plan for us all.
The truth is God made us and then let us make our own decisions. plain and simple
Now I will use your own example. A long time ago we thought Tobacco was not harmfull for you at all. Today we realize it can cause severe health problems, we have also realized it can cause problems for a baby. We have found out many things like this. Even some medicines that were used in the past are no longer used because it was found deadly.
Imagine if some day we found out that Advil was actually very harmfull to babies. See the truth is we have done a lot of things to destroy ourselves and the Earth. We did not realize we were doing it at the time, but do you think that we are still not doing it today??
The truth is we are doing things today to destroy ourselves, we might not realize it for years, but we are.
My sister in law had a baby that died at 2 years old. My sister in law was in perfect health, but they couldn't figure out what happened until she researched her family line and found out her great grandfather was in a war and picked up a disease. This disease laid doormate for a while, but her child most likely picked it up. That is what her doctors told her could have happened after she did the research.
I hope this helps.

You are correct. An all loving, all knowing, and all powerful god would not allow any evil. A lot of people that don't know better will try to explain all the evil in the world with lines like "god gave us free will" or "evil is the absence of god" but, it doesn't matter. Neither the free will nor the absence theodicy work.

put off suffering and evil? I see none of that. human beings wade through for all time, and evil is being dedicated daily. And no human being of their precise recommendations can call what "Jesus" allegedly did "suffering." If someone were to inform you that you will be tortured for an afternoon, hung up on a visit die, yet then in 3 days you'll advance from the useless and finally ascend into heaven to develop into god, would you imagine that became suffering? i imagine no longer.

Loving God gave us free will...we bring a lot of sorrow to our live by our choices and sometimes we make other people suffer for our choices ..and sometime we suffer for other people's bad choices...
God is loving indeed. He gave His only Son so we can have everlasting love.
We are here only a little time and then we will join with Him in eternity...
He can make everything new.

You're right.
The other option is that our puny little minds cannot understand why God must let us suffer, before we attain paradise. Which is what Christianity has used to dismiss your point.
I'm glad I'm not the only who thinks like this ;)
SONOFFM: He introduced an idea for debate. It's another way of asking the question...

Without a loving God, how would you know suffering and evil exist?
Evil is only the absence of good.

He loves everyone infinitely, until he decides you'd be best off spending eternity in hell. Belief in god has caused more evil and suffering around the world than any other belief. The world will blossom once this myth is buried.
