A friends cat passed away, and she wants to keep a photo of him in a 'book-type' picture frame with some sort of tribute to him. She asked me to come up with something...I have, but I'm worried it may not be suitable, he was so important to her and I don't want to upset her by getting this wrong...I'd be grateful if you could read this and give me your opinions, comments and/or better ideas. Thanks.

So often sunlight falls upon
and warms your favourite chair.
So 'oft I reach to seek you soft
and stroke your velvet fur.
Bewitched by claws of ivory
that momentarily gleamed
As emerald eyes bestirred the veils
of soft eternal dreams
What secret smile that curved you lips
as whiskers sweep erect
What pinkest tongue that curled and licked
the paw that you outstretched
and rested in my upturned palm...
Your cheek against my hand
We shared these moments
Deeply calm
When all we had, enchants.

......Even a title would be good.....

I think this is lovely. Very touching. You have captured the feline purrsonality and human/animal bond sentiments very well with you words. Your friend is fortunate to have someone like you to help her cope with this misfortune. Visit a web site called THE RAINBOW BRIDGE for more ideas. You might visit it together with your friend but preview it yourself first to see if she is ready for it. Take care. And please tell your friend that my heart hurts for her. My kitties mean the world to me too.

That is so uplifting to read. Your friend surely will appreciate the effort you've gone to to appease his loss and I wish you well and also to your friend as I have an ill cat and that would help me through when the time comes. There are also some lovely cat ornaments that may be appropriate for Arthurs memory too that you could buy.

Personally I don't think they mourn in the same way that humans do, but if the owner and dog had a strong bond, then I'm sure that the dog would miss the owner and not understand why s/he was not around.

This poem has a lot of love in it and some very sensitive feelings. I liked it. Your friend is lucky to have such a caring person writing about her cat.

I guess the best title would probably be the name of the cat or "To Arthur" (or whateverhe was called)

Thank you for posting the poem, it is uplifting to see the care you have put in to it.

When I must leave you
For a little while –
Please do not grieve and shed wild tears
And hug your sorrow to you
Through the years,
But start out bravely
With a gallant smile;
And for my sake
And in my name
Live on and do
All things the same,
Feed not your loneliness
On empty days,
But fill each waking hour
In useful ways,
Reach out your hand
In comfort and in cheer
And I in turn will comfort you
And hold you near;
And never, never
Be afraid to die,
For I am waiting for you in the sky!

I had a great picture of one of my kitties right before he got sick (and passed away). I put his picture in a really nice frame and set it down next to his urn. (I had a private cremation.) So when the warm weather comes, I set his picture down on his favourite window sill. Sounds silly, but I'm still not over it.There are also websites that talk about the Rainbow Bridge, where all pets cross-over when they pass.

I think it is good.. Does she know your style of writing? Cats are very bewitching so I think that is appropriate to say..

For a title you might want to go with the cats name like something like "In memory of Henry"..

As for the person saying witches are evil.. your nuts.. Witches are not evil and neither are cats!

Title - Enchanted

This is a wonderful tribute to your friend, as well as her beloved pet. I miss my cat every day, and just reading this evoked such wonderful memories, I have tears in my eyes. You managed to capture the magic of the cat, and remind me why I love them so much.

Thanks for sharing something so great. Any animal lover would be grateful that someone understood their love and their loss so well. Your friend is lucky to have you!

I think this poem is absolutely delightfu. I would give it the title of your friends cats name; I am sure she will want to have this framed with a photo of her cat; ask at your local photography shop or framers. If you wrote the poem, dont stop doing it!!
