well, you can also use "Que Tal" or "Que Pasa"slang for whats happening but its all in how you deliver it. Dont say it as a question say it with confidence and it means the same as Hi.

In Spanish the way to say "hi" comes with the country or area where you are. In Panama "hi" is much longer "Que paso" as if something that had happened is necessary to start the conversation. In Mexico the "hi" greating could be much longer than in Panama, in Mexico you might say "Que honda" not the motorcycle Honda but "honda" meaning a wave. In Cuba it might be "Que Bola" or in other words what is rolling.

I hope this help with the "hi" in Spanish.

Hola
¿Que tal?
¿Como esta?
¿Que pasa?
Buenos dias
Buenas tardes
Buenas noches
¿Como le va?

All these are greetings used in Spanish according to the different relationships, times of day etc.

in spanish many people use " que tal" towards teenagers its like saying.. hey whats up...

or when you answer the phone.. "bueno".. means hello..

there are also different kinds of hello during different times of the day..

buenos dias - good morning
buenos tardes - good afternoon
buenas noches - goodnight.. this one is needs a lil understanding.. but its just a proper way to say hello during different times of the day...
