Don't waste your time trying to impress her (easier said than done). Just move on and do what seems right to you to meet the potential you see in yourself. Find others who see potential in you as well and use them as mentors. Your mom may come around, but she may not. Or she may feel like she's just trying to get you to do your best without realizing what a negative effect it's having on you. Either way, you can't let her be the focus of your efforts.

Stop trying to impress her. If she doesn't believe then there is nothing you can do. Just hold your head high and Know that you believe in your abilities.

Prove yourself first by completing the tasks she requests then if not hurting anyone or even the chance of hurting someone or something prove yourself by showing her. Remember moms were once in your space and have acquired a bit more knowledge than you probably give her credit for.

Accept her for who she is and don't look to her for acceptance. Believe in yourself. You can't change others~ even your family. I know that is a hard pill to swallow but it is true and the sooner you accept that the better you will be. Find it in yourself to raise your self esteem to a level that motivates yourself. Ask yourself why you have a deep need to please her or have her approval and what if you never get it? Will your happieness hinge on that? I hope not. Find your happieness within yourself and your sucesses and not in the approval of anyone else.

Get a good support system (friends) to do projects with. My mom still doesn't believe in me even though I'm 50 years old and take care of her. (she's 82)
