I would guess that it is the Bible. I don't have any specific research to back that up.

My rationale is that one of the foundations for many cultures is religion, whether it be Catholism or Christianity. Based on that many people have grown up with the Bible as a central part of their family. Most people know some type of bible verse even if they don't realize that is where it is from.
