OMG Stop thinking about it. Your going to get your mind off the upcoming procedure and imaging how you are going to tell everyone about your fear as you enter the office. Pain is in the brain. Your fear will make the pain feel worse that it really is. Please get your mind off the pain.

I hate going to the dentist, but it's fear of pain, more than experiences of pain that make my visits less than pleasant. The noise is scary, but harmless. I have gone out of my way to find dentists who are gentle and know how to give shots so I barely feel them (often this depends on location). Also, the sooner you take care of the cavity, the smaller the filling will be—and the farther away from the nerve endings. A little filling I'd rate a 1, if that. Larger fillings might be a 2. Excruciating pain only happens when you stay away from the dentist.

Every dentist that I've ever been to makes it a nearly pain-free process. First, they wipe something on your gums to numb them. Then, they inject your gums with Novocaine. Everything becomes numb, and you should feel absolutely NOTHING.

The only pain is a slight pinch when you get the Novocaine shot. The gum numbing swab does not cut the pain completely, but it hurts about as much as a light scratch, and it only lasts for a second or two. I'd put it at about a 1 on your scale.
