You could put something ofensive on where he licks, like "bitter apple". My vet says licking is often a sign of some kind of obsessive compulsive disorder.

Pom's are known to be a bit neurotic at times, so this might be a psychological thing...sort of OCD for dogs. You might talk to your vet about this. You didn't indicate WHAT he licks....does he lick himself or you or the kitchen floor? That can make a difference. If he licks you obsessively it could be a sort of minor dominance thing, he might be "claiming" you as his own. You probably should figure out what his favorite thing is (besides licking) and when he begins to lick, re-direct his attention with the other thing he loves. Pretty much every time he starts to lick, re-direct him to something else. When he is "not" licking praise him or give him a treat. You can also try just getting up and walking away when he begins to lick (if he's licking you). Ignore him completely until he's calmed down and then go back to what you were doing. If he starts licking again, get up and walk away again. Good luck

You really need to talk to your vet about this and determine if there is a physical cause and if not, determine if it's psychological. It's not uncommon at all for dogs to repeatedly lick or do something else that is obsessive and the dog may not be able to help it no matter how much you tell it "no". There are medications that can help with this. If you've already talked to your vet about this, find another vet who specializes in small breed dogs and get a second opinion. Good luck!

Is he licking his fur? If so, he may have a food alergy, go to naturapetproducts.com.
If he's licking people, and you've tried training him already, you probably just need to be more firm with him. Have you tried obedience training? It teaches you how to train the dog, gives the dog more confidence in himself and gives you quality time with him. Good luck

What does he lick, by that I mean himself . you. your kids. his food. funiture. what?

Dogs really can't help it if they lick someone. It is how they show affection. For other dogs and for you.
Why is a mystery to me. But think about it a minute, they have no hands, they can't speak our language, we really disapprove of barking all the time, and jumping on us is definetly not something we encourage, so licking is all that is left to show any feelings for us they have.
Give the dog a break and lick him back! You might like it if you tried it! lol!

You can train him to stop by keeping a small spray bottle full of ice cold water nearby. When he starts licking and wont stop when you tell him to , simply spray him on the nose with the water. It will not hurt him and he will learn that if he doesn't stop he will get sprayed, so sooner than later , he will stop.

This may sound cruel but have you tried using pepper or hot sauce on the area your dog licks?

ok i have dog like that she is now 6 years old it is an animal thing that somes will do and some won't but you can always ask an obedience trainer what you can do , but on animal planet they say it is like the dog loves you so much that this is his way of showing it. each litter has an omega dog and an alpha and since a puppy is not with his parents, he considers you an omega or alpha. it is show of affection

My Jack Russell/Pomerian mix does the same thing. Cesar Milan's book (and TV show) was very helpful. She still tries, but it's getting better ....
