I have been saying this to anyone that will listen!!! People look back at the Vietnam war as a failure of the US. The US went in there and tried to implement the form of government they saw best. And now we are trying to transform the government of Iraq? See the comparison, this war will be viewed as another US failure. How many more wars will the world tolerate that Americans step in and try to force their ideas. These wars also hurt our economy. Are these failed wars the beginning of the end for the US as the leading "empire" of the world.

LOL. The Vietnam War was started by Kennedy and escalated by Johnson, who was seen even more unpopular by the American public than President Bush is today (by the way, they were both Democrats). And just a history checkup, it was President Nixon who withdrew ALL troops from Vietnam in 1973--the war didnt end there though, a couple of years later or so the War ended between the North and South Vietnamese with the North Vietnamese taking over Sigon. So obviously, you're wrong when you say it was the Republicans who lost the war in Vietnam, neither did they start it.

It wasn't necessarily Republicans that lost the war. It was incessant political bickering that caused a congress that couldn't decide on a proper way to fight a war. Add into the mix the fact that then, much like now, very few of anybody in congress had/has ever served in war. McCain is an obvious choice of an American hero who went into government. And say what you will about Kerry, but atleast he went and fought in 'Nam when our illustrious leader hid in the Guard and then didn't even have the nuts to show up for drill. But yes, as a combat veteran, I must agree that not only are the Republicans, but congress as a whole aswell as the President, letting us down in Iraq. The constant bickering and ineffectiveness of a congress run by "pogues", threaten to once again abandon the troops doing the actual fighting and let all the redneck s.o.b.'s and hippie whiners run their nondeserving mouths yet again.

Kennedy and Johnson got us into the war but didn't want to commit fully, that is why we lost and that is why we are going full force into Iraq. We have learned you can't put American lives on the line half way, if your going to go to war you have to go all the way, that is why Bush isn't backing down or committed to any exit timeline.
By the time Ford was in office the Republicans had lost so much power and the war was so unpopular is was impossible to fight. If we had fought it the right way in the begining we would have saved many American lives, tax dollars and pride.

Your ignorance of history is astounding. It was Lyndon Johnson who sent the majority of troops to Vietnam and then blew it by not letting the generals and admirals do what they do best - fight wars. Richard Nixon upon being elected - rather than continue an already enormously unpopular war - began the drawdown of the troops.
I am not laying blame at anyone's footsteps. History is history. But you would do well to at least learn the basics of something before you attempt to use is to bash half of the country merely because you do not agree with their ideology. I can point to plenty of blunders Democrats have made - and if your knowledge of the Vietnam War is any indication, I would make you look like an absolute fool.

Dumb question. President Johnson would not commit to a full war, and by the time that he was through, the war was already lost. Nixon saw that he could do nothing and immediately started to pull troops out, although at a sluggish pace. Political parties do not lose wars, decision makers do, and when the most powerful man on the planet cannot make a decision, the war is over.

Oh stop. Get a history book and read about the Viet Nam War under Kennedy and Johnson (DEMOCRATS). It was lost from the get go. If Nixon hadn't resigned from the Presidency IN DISGRACE in 1973 the war would have been lost under his administration. There's enough shame to go around for BOTH parties.

No, it was the liberals who made us lose the war. Look it up. The Viet Cong was ready to surrender because they couldn't handle the heavy bombing we were doing. But the media and the hippies kept saying we would lose so the Viet Cong held out and so the Liberals got what they wanted. Seems somewhat familiar nowadays doesn't. What's that country called again? Oh yeah Iraq. We are doing a good job over there, but all you have from the liberal media is bad news. See a connection.

the considerable reason in accordance to protection pressure historians and analysts replaced into that we did not commit adequate manpower and aspects to the warfare. It replaced into also a civil warfare fought through guerllias who knew the terrain nicely.and had the help of the people. Our troops were worn down through the 27/7 threat of having hit through sniper hearth and the precedence of distinguishing pal from enemy because the Viet Cong did not placed on uniforms. Following the Vietnam warfare, Colin Powell more suitable the doctrine of "overwhelming pressure" which meant we ought to continuously err on the aspect of having too many troops to strive against a warfare, no longer too few. Kissinger, who helped the U. S. lose the Vietnam warfare (alongside with Rumsfeld and Cheney) were advising the President on a thanks to win the Iraq warfare.
