Yes, I've heard of using cedar for preparing fish. There is a whole "school" of thought (get it, "school?? fish?? - sorry, it's late and I'm getting slap-happy) which says wood and particularly cedar wood is the best for preparing fish because of the living enzymes in the wood, and also because the cedar imparts a particular scent into the fish.

Break out your grill set your fish on your cedar plank and cook away. The result is similar to smoking.

yes excellent,also mesquite chips, alder wood and fruit tree wood all give unique flavores to meats.
