Hi Vicoria I too am an artist who asked the same question a few months ago. I found a great site called wetcanvas.com And there you can learn the best ways to sell your paitings. Everyone is a little different so check out what others have done and pick the best way for you. There are galleries especailly for artist just starting out like "The starving artist" in St. Louis. You can make a deal with them and send some of your work to them thousands of people go their yearly to look for paintings. A friend of mine added a page on her website of my paintings and I have sold 14 there in the past 6 months to people from all over the country. There are many catagories about art at wetcanvas.com, you can see what others are doing and if you are brave (lol) have some of your work critiqued. Some of the best artists in the world are members of this site. I think there are over 4000 members! I would love to see some of your work and would like your oppinion on some of mine. My email here is harpo562000 so if you want write me some time. My name is Steve Hope this bit of info helps you...see ya Steve

Try alternative venues like banquet halls...volunteer some time to local college alumni events, privately owned boutiques, resturants and community art festivals...check locally for art buyers, galleries willing to display work for percentage of profit. You can always get a representative who will work with you but take a small percentage.
Website is really good too. MYSPACE

Ask local art galleries, restaurants, coffee houses, etc and see if they'll hang your stuff up w/a small price tag. Or ask the local farmer's market if you can start a stand. Plus, advertising in the newpaper never hurts!

never fall in love with your paintings. signal it, date it, take a photo of it if desire be, then promote the portray, provide it away or burn it. The worst mistake is to stifle progression by ability of falling in love with any unmarried piece. To be an artist is to maintain on with the approach (paint, paint and paint) and brush aside the product (bypass on to the subsequent and better appropriate portray).
