My husbands grandmother thinks that our son is cursed...
I personally believe that God doesn't make mistakes and that He only gives us what we can handle.
Our son has changed our lives and put things in perspective for us. What do you think?

ABSOLUTELY, POSITIVELY NOT!!!!!!!!Every child is blessing. God has a distinct and absolute plan for each and every one of us and this child is no different than any other! God looks at this child the same way he does every other child and loves this child as much as he loves any one! This child is so lucky to have two loving, supportive parents. All children, with or without disability should be so lucky!!!! God bless you both and your lucky baby! (And let's all say a prayer for the Grandma... she needs them!)

No I think children are so the most precious things in the world no matter what . I think God puts those people on earth to teach us that we are lucky and people with down sydrome are so very good people, the ones I have known wouldn't hurt a fly. We need more non judgemental people like the people that may have special needs. No, God makes all children special and he just wants people to all get along so he tests us and creates people that are different from us to make us all see people should not judge one another because of their disease, color, differences. Tell that grandmother that your child is not a curse he is a miracle just like every child.

No it is not a curse. There is nothing wrong with people living with down syndrome. They're so beautiful in their unique way, and are so fun! It is not a curse but i believe it is a blessing from God that you have such a special child in your life. Look up a natural remedy name Manatec. They've proven to help the quality of life for people living with down syndrome and its all natural, its just a food deprived from plants.

Down Syndrome is NOT a curse. God has reasons for making the way things are. My friend has a niece with down syndrome and in her culture, it is believed to be a blessing! After her niece was born, the mother was promoted and served as expat in another country, where the whole famiy now resides.
Also, children with down syndrome are sweet kids. Just enroll your son early in special school so he can function as normally as possible.
As the song goes, God is too wise to be mistaken. God is too good to be unkind. So when you don't understand. When you don't see His plan. When you can't trace His hand, trust His heart.

I think an extra 21st chromosome in your husband's sperm or your egg made your down syndrome child, not god. But hey, what do I know, right?

I'm glad your son has put things into perspective for you. I'm glad you give your son all the love a mother can give. Way to go.

Your husband's grandmother is a sad woman.

My son also has Down Syndrome and is the biggest blessing I can imagine. I think your husband's grandmother has some archaic notions about Down Syndrome...I hope that if she takes time to get to know your son, she will see that he is no curse. I'm sure in her day, children like your son (and mine) were, sadly, institutionalized and never allowed to achieve their full potential.

I saw a saying on a DS forum I belong to...wish I knew who to credit with it, but it goes "Angels are made of 47 pieces!"

No offense but it has to be the older generation that would say something that insensitive. I have a son with autism-is he cursed-no! Not to get all religious but even in the New Testament there was a man who was blind from birth and Jesus gave the explanation that the man was not blind because of his parents sin-Then Jesus heals him and says the mans purpose was to show Gods glory by being healed. I cling to this sometimes on a daily basis. And I agree with your outlook 100% and I feel the same way about our little guy. He has changed my character in ways I never would've imagined.

Some people only see a lump of coal and cannot see the diamond inside. I believe people with down syndrome are blessed in a way. They will live without judging others first, without severe ego problems, ect. If only we could aspire to their level.

Not any more than CP is. I think special needs children are a gift, they enrich our lives, they see the good in everything. They make us want to be better people.
My nephew is Down Syndrome, and he's a special boy who loves to smile, Has a very infectious laugh, (when he laughs, you cant help but laugh with him), very sensitive to those around him.
My son has CP, the main difference between them is the wheelchair.

No, it is not a curse! In fact, Down Syndrome children are often a blessing in disguise. They are sweet, innocent, very loving and usually very happy in nature. They only want to be loved and to love in return.

It is a blessing- you are right GOD does not make mistakes and it is wonderful that he has 2 loving parents like you to take care of him. All children are so precious and I believe children with handicaps are even more precious in the eyes of the LORD- he looks after them.
